Super science for the win!
GOOD NEWS! Researchers have made a HUGE breakthrough towards a UNIVERSAL antiviral. By targeting sugar molecules found on the surface of many viruses that SHARE structural similarities, they identified FOUR compounds that successfully BLOCKED infections from SEVEN different viruses.

I have to check this out.
Just got a copy of this one myself (after a visit in Sept). Need to dig in! Emergent Tokyo.
Tonight maybe my FAVOURITE recent book in the #UrbanismBookClub —“EMERGENT TOKYO: Designing the Spontaneous City” by Jorge Almazan & StudioLab. Even if you’re not as fascinated with Tokyo urbanism as I am, this book is both brilliant & gorgeous. HT to @jasonthorne.bsky.social for recommending it. 3/

The Bruce Dickinson show at History was incredible fun in the spirit of 1950s EC Comics. The singer/pilot/Iron Maiden-frontman delivered 1h45 minutes of anthemic horror-themed metal with rousing choruses, blistering performances by his young band, and plenty of audience sing-alongs. Epic!

I wrote this guide to getting last-minute tickets at TIFF for procrastinators like myself. You can read it at the GrindTO:

Don’t have tickets yet? There are still ways to catch great films at the Toronto International Film Festival, happening Sept.

The soundtrack to today's writing session. Don't ask me why Charo popped into my head out of nowhere, but this is fun Latin disco with some cool guitar work.

Accurate!
Probably close to 100% of people who complain about teenagers doing wheelies on their bikes are just jealous they can’t do it to.

100% true. When Toronto built the Bloor/Danforth lanes, I switched from purely recreational riding to commuting.
People will choose cycling if they feel safe riding.
it's not complicated.

Please show this to Toronto City Council.
One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

A friendly reminder that we share the planet with Haruki Murakami, which makes this a great time to be alive. #literature #japaneseculture #books

Some cycling friends share their thoughts on Ontario election day. Get out there and vote. Strategically, if you have to.

What an excellent summation.
I dream that one day drivers will give me as much space on the road on my bicycle as they do a discarded cardboard box.🙏

I am revising my contributions to a sustainability report. As I tighten the text, I am inspired by Haruki Murakami's desk. It's neater than mine but the basic elements are the same: Mac, quality stationery, fountain pen, coffee, lamps, and curios. #penlife #japanesestationery #japaneseliterature

This is precisely the point. The more options people have, the fewer cars on the road, which leaves space for those who actually need them. Motorists have yet to figure out that cycling advocates are their friends.
I could afford a car but I actively choose to live a car free lifestyle. The work I do both in my day job and my personal advocacy is to allow others the ability to have a choice about how they get around. Or as I like to say "From car required to car optional." Choose how you move.

Every time someone walks, bikes, uses bus/rail, does not use a gas vehicle, Solar instead of Natural Gas- they are fighting back. Take money out of their mouths, that's what they do to us everyday.
