a) thyroids aren't real.

or b) thyroids are THE MOST REAL and COMPLEX and impact EVERY BODY SYSTEM in innumerable ways.

I was slammed to the ground and arrested outside an ICE facility. It was a holy experience.
Internment sites are being operated across the country, writes a Chicago pastor. What we do with this knowledge tells us everything about the Christians we are.

Spend five minutes talking to someone who has survived what these policies were designed to stop and you’ll never be the same again. PREA is imperfect and often weaponized, but it’s often the only protection trans/intersex prisoners have. Everyone involved in this should never know a moment’s peace.
BREAKING: Trump administration plans to end prison rape protections for trans & intersex people, memo says. A DOJ memo says certain standards under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) do not align with Trump’s Jan. 20 anti-trans executive order, @byadamrhodes.bsky.social reports.

Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Thinking about this today.

“It also means more than simply living. It means our lives are made so much better now that they actually feel worth living— that the change that gender-affirming care makes possible isn't just about life or death, it's about a vibrant life instead of the absence of one.”
In defense of trans quality of life — Jessica Kant
Today trans people exist in an atmosphere where it has become normal for strangers to demand of us that we extemporaneously provide inarguable, indisputable proof that without very safe medical care w...

i talked about Alice Wong's death in therapy today and my therapist described her as someone who "lit others up." i just find that so apt as a descriptor for who i experienced Alice to be. may she rest in love, knowing that her light continues to shine on in so many of us.

ICYMI: I spent a week with an illustrator in Connecticut’s only immigration court, where judges decide whether thousands of people each year can stay in the U.S.

We found few lawyers, long backlogs and lessened transparency.

reminder: please only share info about ICE presence that has been confirmed & verified by you and/or a trusted source. inciting fear & panic can prevent people from seeking needed care & getting essential resources. it's important that we share info, but it's important that we do so responsibly.

In sorting my own thoughts about the moment, I began writing about the way science is being used by bad actors under the guise of "evidence-based medicine". I also talk about the limits of our ability to fully boil down evidence into axioms that make subjectivity irrelevant.
The myth of an apolitical science — Jessica Kant
What we might call the modern anti-science movement, starting with efforts to hide the obvious linkage between tobacco and cancer, and the rise of “climate skepticism”, has grown in scale enormously i...
