Why clergy should risk assault to protest ICE
(RNS) — For people wanting to experience God, we are more likely to meet the Divine trying to shut down the Broadview, Illinois, ICE facility than we ever were in church.

I believe one reason for their disdain for public health is that it is based on and recognizes our interconnectedness as human beings, as inhabitants of this earth, in direct contrast to the dominant culture's emphasis on individualism.
It really seems like this administration is trying to eliminate the field of public health. MPHs and DrPHs will no longer be considered "professional degrees" by the DOE and, therefore, will face limits to accessing federal student loans.

Thinking about how we had this whole kerfuffle where the word “cisgender” was banned on multiple platforms despite being a statement of fact, but Ohio can just redefine the word “respectful” and the matter is settled. Gaslighting as policy.

An analysis of news pieces about Trump’s anti-trans decrees found that “70 percent did not include a quote from a single trans person. Instead, journalists turned to cisgender sources — mostly government officials — to speak about trans people, their lives, and how they would be affected.”

reason #413985 it's important we be clear that abolition isn't just about dismantling jails, prisons, & detention centers, but also the extension of carcerality outside of those settings

“We have rarely witnessed such brutality erupt into public view like it has in Chicago,” writes Michael Woolf, senior minister of Lake Street Church of Evanston. “For me, this is a spiritual emergency, and it means putting our bodies on the line in order to stop deportations.”
I’m One of the Clergy ICE Assaulted. They Treat Immigrants Worse
I learned the hard way that my clerical collar doesn’t offer much protection from ICE. But immigrants have no protection at all.

Teen Vogue was seriously committed to diverse and inclusive journalism and their disability coverage was extremely good. This is a big loss and someone better snap this column up!!
It’s been a pleasure working with Lex and everyone in the politics vertical at Teen Vogue. I’m heartbroken that my column, Disability Visibility, is gone. Teen Vogue was one of the few places that published disabled journalists regularly. I just spent the last 2 months working on my next column
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

With all the excitement about the election I don’t want this story to get lost. This morning 8 car wash workers in Boston were kidnapped by federal agents in the largest workplace raid in the area in recent memory.

The details are horrifying.

Many of them held legal status but were unable to immediately produce their documentation to the agents, according to their manager.

on a hyper-local level, this is an extremely big deal! DeMaria has been mayor for 18 years and has publicly been in support of city collaboration with ICE (including being mayor during the arrest and detention of a 13-year-old in the city last month).
DeMaria’s out in Everett after 18 years as mayor: Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria has conceded the race in an upset. It appears City Councilor Robert Van Campen will take the corner office. https://bit.ly/47pNkeX
