Sounds like Republicans have a great argument here against insurance companies and in favor of single-payer healthcare.
Remember that insurance is actually a thing you hope never to use, and then read this critique.

If the no public goods crowd prevails, goods are then exclusive to certain individuals and groups. In other words, the very concept of a social contract is no more and we have a kind of caste system defined by who has access to what goods and how much
One way to think about the current moment is an ideological struggle over whether there are such things as public goods
The goal of a business is to make money. The goal of a government is to serve the people. They’re not interchangeable.

What if we also alienate all our trading partners and start trade wars with like… everyone? Maybe that would help? Wait, I know… maybe if we side with our historical foes against a coalition of like… ALL the other western democracies, escalating global tensions toward a possible world war….?

Just sayin’.

I like how they tag their chain of command at the bottom of the tweet:

Army -> SECDEF -> POTUS -> Musk

My outstanding new Congresswoman @juliejohnsontx.bsky.social‘s people left a robo-voicemail to let me know she had just started a telephone town hall, to update on the problematic actions by the administration, and they left the dial-in number so I could call in immediately.

If the President can shut down agencies created by statute and funded by appropriation, just because he wants to, then Congress might as well close up shop and go home.

If the President can appoint people to do this without any confirmation and oversight, same.

The thing about Elon is he is so fucking drug addled and insane that it's truly difficult to tell which second and third order effects he is purposely trying to engineer and which are just obvious consequences that he is too dumb to see.

One legal issue with “Musk takes the checkbook” is that it seems like several Musk lackeys (or Musk himself) will be exercising substantial authority pursuant to public law. That’s unconstitutional, as they weren’t appointed consistent with the appointments clause or other applicable law
Could any President say "I don't want their DHS with a head requiring confirmation I'm going to create my OWN DHS and I'm going to say the appointee who runs it requires no confirmation!!!! But also I need all the data and files from old DHS and any employee who signs a loyalty oath can come over"

Took the kids climbing today so I could avoid tuning in to the Shitstorm of Doom, and now I need to feast on Advil for the rest of the evening.

I’d have pardoned my kid, too. Any parent who wouldn’t have sucks as a parent.

Best way to start Thanksgiving has always been helping set up the meal for our local refugee ministry—for most of whom it’s their first Thanksgiving. Feels more important than ever this year.

I just keep thinking about…imagine being a woman at the pinnacle of a military career, as a four-star service chief, and knowing your likely new boss believes you never should have been allowed to serve.

See, this is why we use the Oxford comma, and/or proofread. Who knew that Netanyahu was also the Hamas military chief?!

Nah man, it’s fine, I’m sure they’d be chill if we nominated a SECDEF with “Allahu Akbar” tattooed on his arm. Who doesn’t think God is great?
Deus vult’ began as a rallying cry for the Crusades. More recently, it’s been adopted by the far right. And we’re not even supposed to wonder/ask why it’s tattooed on the arm of the next defense secretary?

This is great, because you can only DM them if you have a verified account…for which you have to pay Elon.

Telling people they’re applying to a non-existent government agency in order to make them pay you money is literally fraud. And there will be no consequences, b/c we don’t have those anymore.

Sigh. They’re going to put all the energy and focus on sinking Gaetz, and Hegseth and Gabbard will get a pass.
