Big Mars news! 🔴

While more data is required, these findings could represent the most promising evidence yet of ancient life on Mars. 🧬

We supported scientists at @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social on the work, putting UK science at the heart of this discovery. 🔭

Hi all. This is my first post on Bluesky. But of an experiment, this one: North American and Pelican Nebulae taken with my PlayerOne Uranus C Pro, on a vintage Takumar 135mm M42 lens. Zwo duo band and UVIR cut filters. I struggled with haloes a bit. Processed in Pixinsight. #astrophotography

Happy 82nd birthday to Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, born #OTD in 1943. 🧪 🔭 👩‍🔬 🎂
Astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell was born #OTD in 1943. As a Cambridge grad student in 1967, she discovered an entirely new type of celestial object: Pulsars!

In 1974 the Nobel was given to her advisor; she was left off. 🧪 👩‍🔬 🔭

As human influence extends farther into space, broader ethical guidelines are needed for the exploration and treatment of extraterrestrial environments and phenomena, argue the authors of a Comment article in Nature. 🔭 🧪
How to chart a moral future for space exploration
Expanding human influence in outer space will require an ethical compass that is more expansive than the one conventionally used.

Today is May 10. #OTD in 1900, astronomer Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin was born in Wendover, England. From her work
we learned that stars are made mostly of hydrogen and helium. Excerpts from #ReinventionofScience doi.org/10.1142/q0394 ⚛️🔭🧪 #Womeninstem womeninastronomy.blogspot.com/2025/05/wome...

🌟🪐🌙 = 🙂 In a few hours, at 6h UT on April 25th, the Moon, Venus & Saturn will all lie within a 4.1° diameter circle in the morning sky. For some locations, the celestial trio will align to form a "Smiley Face" above the eastern horizon. For example, in São Paulo, Brazil. 🔭

Sh2-129 - Flying Bat and Squid Nebula

This was one of the most difficult targets I shot last year. The faint Oiii signal in the Squid Nebula is really more suited to a mono setup and required over 20 hours of integration to really pull the details out using an OSC.🔭

The Dark Shark Nebula (LDN 1235) is an interesting region in Cepheus. Dark nebulae contains dense interstellar gas and dust that blocks starlight. It is part of a molecular cloud that contains two bright blue nebulae (vdB 149 & 148).

Since we’re all talking about it I want to blow up a real female space pioneer, Mae Jemison, an actual astronaut. She’s a graduate of Stanford and Cornel Medical School, served in the peace corps, started an educational nonprofit, and worked for the CDC researching vaccines. That’s a woman in space
