Everyone thinks the star-studded Dodgers will win it all again. Done deal. Right?

But MLB hasn’t had a repeat champion since 2000. A lot can, and often, does go wrong. In fact, LA probably isn't going to win the 2025 World Series. @zcrizer.bsky.social explains:

This morning, we learned that President Trump fired Board Member Gwynne Wilcox, whose Senate-confirmed term runs until 2028.

This move must be called out for what it is—a frontal assault on the NLRB, its employees, workers, and the very idea of an independent civil service. 🚨

Yahoo! Sports has seen incredible talent pass though its doors the past three decades, yet its been blindly unwilling to build and keep a staff.
The day I knew was coming eventually has finally arrived. I got laid off from Yahoo Sports today. I spent eight years there, six as a full-timer, and I loved every minute. I'm going to miss the work, but mostly I'm going to miss the amazing people I worked with every day. They are superstars.

The intent is to prevent the Board from having a quorum. Without one it cannot make any decisions.

Without a Board or a General Counsel or GC designate unions and employees will have no redress for violations of the law.

Today at @baseballprospectus.com : With the Dodgers and the New York teams opening their wallets this offseason, seemingly pricing many teams out of the market for on-field talent, is it time for a salary cap in MLB? An examination by the numbers

My first read of the morning.
Since moving to Bluesky in earnest my newsletter is getting a massive uptick in click-throughs, conversions to paid subscriptions, and overall engagement. All this despite having a third of the followers here that I had on Twitter. Just night and day shit, man.

When people watched Hank Aaron in 1960 they just enjoyed the show, they didn't think "yeah, but I'm worried about 1968." I suggest we just watch Soto (or Judge/Ohtani/Harper/...) allow ourselves to be amazed.

I'm going to ramble a bit and use @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social post as a jumping off point.
The current CBA has the "Cohen tax" which requires teams that exceed the highest threshold for total team payroll of $293M/yr for 3 consecutive years pay 110% of the overage as a salary tax. So, this Soto 1/
There are financial disparities in baseball, but it's also the case that there are multiple teams whose biggest-ever free agent a contract isn't significantly higher in total value than Juan Soto's AAV. I don't think you get to whine about the game being unfair if your team's owner has never tried.

Dick Allen fell one vote short of election in his last two ballot appearances.

An elite hitter who clashed with a world that was often far too slow to embrace him as either a player or a person.
