Searching the Sporting News archive from 1965 through 1969, the name "Bob Clemente" shows up 2 times, "Bobby Clemente" 0 times, and "Roberto Clemente" 794 times. Whatever their reasons, Topps went against the grain when they used "Bob" every year from 1957 to 1969.

Over the next week I’m planning to sell 6 football sets on eBay. 1968-1973. If interested let me know. I will determine eBay price (based on recent sales), but $50 discount here. I listed 1972 (EX, series 1+2) for $400.

(I tried to get credit from my son, but he said “you have football cards?”)

Doug Clemens played parts of 9 yrs in majors. This is only Topps card. Why? Should have 1964-66 at least. Exclusive with Fleer (like Wills, Adcock, Short, Dick Hall)? I'd love to know for sure. @sabrbbcards.bsky.social @nightowlcardz.bsky.social @spoart.bsky.social @tjpilotsfan.bsky.social #cardsky

I’ve seen that band in that venue several times in the past 20 years.
I don’t realize this was right next to my hotel AND that was where my concert was!

Expect major traffic on the bridges tonight as all of the people who threatened to leave NYC if Mamdani was elected move out…oh wait, hang on, I’m being told there is no traffic on the bridges.

The 2003-04 Red Sox and Yankees met in the ALCS twice, split 14 games. Many turned on unlikely acts (good and bad). There are 50 books, movies, documentaries about these teams, nearly all finding character, choking, heroism, gutlessness. Play those games again and who the hell knows what happens?
Personally, I find post-season baseball more fun *because* there are often no overarching conclusions to be drawn. Who has played the best this week? Blue Jays? Who is the best team? Dunno. Who is going to win Friday? No idea, can’t wait. There have been some incredible plays this week. It’s cool.
Mainstream baseball analysis basically consists of people pretending to have memories of goldfish and acting as if their insights are significant. The genre does not allow for simple "hey, that happened, wasn't that a hell of a thing?" observations, which basically cover it all in the postseason.

A friend came over to watch Game 1 last week. He’s a big sports fan, but not a baseball obsessive. Knows the game, not the details. Sits down and says “Hey, why is the first game in Toronto?” Because they had a better record. “WTF?”

And here I thought my Dodger fan-friends were overstating their bullpen troubles.

The long 2018 game World Series game, which also ended on the first batter of bottom of the 18th but had much LESS action (30 total H+W, as opposed to 50 last night) took FORTY-ONE more minutes. If you’re still wondering about the pitch clock.

Pal @dialofdestiny.bsky.social and I often exchange post cards. Lately he has sent me strange “post cards” cut from a larger photo. Today I got #4. We all have our heroes 🦸 .

Satchel Paige pitched in Devil’s Lake, ND, in May 1935 during his summer with the Bismarck Churchills. I would like to think, for obvious reasons, that he dined here.

“Hey honey, what did you get in the Amazon package?”

“Oh, I got a stack of 100 blank pieces of baseball-card-sized cardboard that I could put in a binder in lieu of an empty slot. Pretty neat, huh?”

“………”

Today is the 50th anniversary for baseball's greatest game story, penned by the Boston Globe's Peter Gammons in just a few minutes. “And all of a sudden the ball was there, like the Mystic River Bridge, suspended out in the black of the morning." Forgive my choking up.

Looking forward to the Series. The world is shitty, it’s getting dark at like 2 in the afternoon, I love baseball, I don’t have a big like/dislike for either team —> low stress, occasional attempts to give a shit about football fail miserably, no family crises appear imminent. Bring it on.

Other than Ohtani, what is the highest level in 2025 at which a player is a regular/important pitcher/position player? Any in college?

I recently figured out that I have 221 of 275 of the original Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcards. Does anyone have cards they wish to trade? I have about 80 extras, so perhaps we line up? @sabrbbcards.bsky.social @thelensofdonnam.bsky.social @heavyjstudios.bsky.social #cardsky

After a year away, I recreated my X account. Taking it slowly, I followed precisely three people. An hour later I checked my feed, and I had tweets from Sarah Langs (one of my three follows), Donald Trump, Turning Point USA, the White House, and now I remember why I left.
