Mac and cheese. A simple recipe: Cook the noodles. Make a roux, add mustard powder, Worcestershire sauce and milk and cook until the sauce thickens. Gradually add a metric fuckton of grated cheese. Pour the sauce over the cooked pasta in a baking dish, top with more grated cheese, bake ‘til done. 🍽️🍜

To celebrate #NationalBakingWeek last week, our team of bakers headed for the kitchen to see what fabulous treats they could make. Did they rise to the challenge? You bet they did!

From a banana bread bake to a Dorset apple cake, the team made National Baking Week a BIG success at LbQ towers.

I made pesto! Basil 🌿 from the garden. Frozen 2 years ago, so freeze dried? Walnuts, olive oil 🫒 garlic 🧄 and salt 🧂🍽️🌱

I made pesto butter at first with frozen basil in a food processor. So it appears creamy. It melted in to regular pesto though. It may need more olive oil. Probably a quart/kilo!

A special case of #heterophylly is #anisophylly. Anisophylly means “unequal leaves.” We use this word to refer to plants that produce unequal leaves continuously and concurrently (not environmentally induced). 📷: unequal pinnate, opposite leaves in Tribulus cistoides #Zygophyllaceae #botany 🌱🧪🌾

Feeling slightly overwhelmed by the amount of apples... that I have just picked from our little tree... there were 2 laundry baskets full... over 200 cox's orange pippins (total crop 212!)... and I actually thinned the crop by ~½... quite a few are perfect & a decent size too...🍎🍏🍎🍏🍎🌱💚

Last week was heteroblasty, but this week I’m looking at a related concept: #heterophylly. Heterophylly is concurrent variation in leaf form, often in response to very different environments (amphibious plants). 📷: Ludwigia arcuata. Sean Patton CCBYN4 #Onagraceae #Botany 🌱🧪🌾

Anniversary dinner (a lean version because I’m having a sensitive tummy): seared baby zucchini and yellow squash from the garden with a dusting of Parmesan and basil, and a reverse seared tenderloin from our meat share. 🌱🍜🍽️

We do a lot of sheet pan roasting in our house so we got this very fancy sheet pan. Tonight was its maiden voyage: herbed chicken with sweet potatoes, poblanos from the garden, some Brussels in a lime-cilantro vinaigrette with pepitas and cotija 🌱🍽️

Tried Erin Jeanne McDowell’s recipe for Dutch Apple Pie. Very similar ingredients to my mom’s recipe, but with some different techniques. As you can see, it came out lovely! 🍽️🍜
