I always wanted a big close family that did things together. I now know the family I was always wanting was the family I was taken from. Don’t tell a mother her child will be better off without her - you don’t know that. Many adoptees miss the life they should’ve had. #adoptee

adoptee here. the idea that coercion has been eliminated from adoption is simply false, as adoptees and birthparents can tell you, and as @gretchensisson.bsky.social has documented.
Though single parenthood may have lost much of its social stigma, poverty remains the root cause of relinquishment.

Hello, I am a progressive but I am not giving my opinion based on Friends who have adopted and other friends who have been adopted. In the past young women were forced to give up their children kidnapped by their parents clergy etc. We do live in different times. No system is perfect.

I'm constantly amazed by adoptive parents who are also writers who talk about honoring people's stories but also continue to speak for and over adoptees.
Do you not grasp that we adoptees experience life through a lense you can't possibly understand?

My adoptive parents didn't get me for free. They paid "fees" to Catholic Charities, to lawyers, to the state. That makes me a purchased child. I wasn't free. It's not the same thing as paying doctor bills for a pregnancy and birth. It's buying a baby and that's human trafficking. 🥚

What we must do is restore our history if we are to stop the industry from destroying more human lives. Human trafficking runs a child supply market in which children are bought and killed. It's time we all prioritize stopping these crimes against mothers and their children. So, what's stopping us?
