Hello to my very limited Bluesky following! I recently started communicating climate science in short video format, because I believe it is an area of science communication lacking in climate scientists.

Just watched Al Gore’s latest TED talk dismantling the so‑called “climate realism” narrative.

An inspiring summary of the climate crisis, proving that we are making progress, despite pushback from the fossil fuel industry.

Every country is warming.

Every country is experiencing more extreme weather events because of climate change, mainly caused by burning fossil fuels. www.ShowYourStripes.info

Time to #ShowYourStripes and start climate conversations to prompt actions to reduce emissions, personally & collectively.

New paper in @rmets.org Weather from Gillian Kay & Met Office colleagues finds the max possible UK temperature in the *current* climate is a staggering 46.6°C. That's 6.3°C above the current record!

We're not prepared for today's extremes, let alone those of the future.

Rapidly increasing chance of record UK summer temperatures
The UK recorded its first exceedance of 40°C in July 2022. To assess the current chance of recurrence, we use a large climate model ensemble approach and find the 2023 return period to be 1-in-24 yea....

Because I clearly hate myself, let's do a quick fact check on some of the most popular comments...

The village of Blatten in Switzerland is partly buried by the collapse of a glacier which melted because our greenhouse gas emissions warmed the climate.

Another reminder that choosing to not invest enough today to reduce emissions means far greater costs for society in the long term.

A lot of us are doing our part. It's only fair the worst offenders do theirs.

Recently, I've seen people talking about the environmental impacts of using ChatGPT, etc.

But casual usage might not be as bad as people think, relative to our usual energy consumption.

@hannahritchie.bsky.social shares the data and details here:

Scientists who study climate don't automatically attribute all changes to human activity. Rather, we carefully investigate every possible natural factor that could explain the planet's warming.

Could these be the real culprits?

The evidence is in--and the answer is NO.

This thread explains! 🧵
