Thinking back to Constitutional Law with Randy Barnett(!) when I made an impassioned point about how the Roman Republic collapsed, the design of the Constitution was to stop that, and he scoffed, "we're not Rome."

"I pay the soldiers, not the Senate" was how Gaius Marius kicked off the end.

Swearing in isn’t some ceremony. You aren’t a member of Congress until it happens. He knows that.

No phones, no staff, nothing.

I had to escort her into the Capitol on Wed bc Capitol police must treat her as a public visitor until she’s sworn in. And solo visitors aren’t allowed during shutdown!
Johnson: "Grijalva should be working for her constituents right now. I don't know what she's doing. I keep seeing their political stunt videos. She should be in her office. She should be working or in the district for her constituents" (Grijalva is not in fact a Rep. b/c Johnson refuses to seat her)

That's twenty-seven flat-out murders. That's twenty-seven lives taken without even a semblance of a legal justification under domestic or international law.

I didn't watch Kimmel but I believe strongly in the First Amendment. It's wrong for the government to use threats of coercion to suppress protected speech by the opposition, and it's wrong to be cowardly in response.

SCOTUS thought they could ride the tiger and get what they wanted ideologically. In exchange, they would give him everything he wanted except the Fed. Just leave the Fed alone and you can ignore all federal law. But it ended the same way it has for everyone who tried to ride the tiger since 2016.

Had a shower thought this morning - I’ve heard people say we’d be better off if Biden lost in 2020 because this is worse than Trump I, and we’d be better off if Obama lost to Romney because then no Trump, and honestly it’s wild how liberals’ fantasies are about losing even more than they already do.
