i am convinced that these people are death worshippers who want to spread as much disease and sickness as possible (i also think this is all tied up in eugenic beliefs about the “survival of the fittest” www.nytimes.com/2024/12/13/h...

I choose to believe this is an elaborate piece of performance art, because I refuse to accept that any humanities professor would accept this total abdication of our basic duties.

Did a talk on journalism to undergraduates. Learned very interesting stuff about how youngsters consume and interpret information, and how they judge the news media (trigger alert for any journalists out there whose core belief is that we're important).

The South Korea situation is already troubling in a deep, deep way. Watching our media cover this by only airing the official statements is disturbing and this is a pretty predictable roadmap to widescale tragedy.

Reading the pardon coverage...I don't think the significance of the Gaetz/Patel/Bondi nominations has sunk in. People still aren't getting what a politicized DOJ and FBI, with the power to arrest/bug/harass anyone for any reason, would be able to do.

Holy cow, South Korea's president just declared martial law.
Claims it's to deal with "shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces," but there doesn't appear to be any big North Korean activity.

Sure looks it's about a domestic political dispute, and soldiers are blocking access to the parliament.

There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

👇🎯 It’s one thing for everyone in 🇺🇸 to decide Trump is above the law & no one who swore oaths to country & Constitution can stand up to him. But the rest of the world isn’t going to behave like that, & so we will waste a generation rebuilding our incinerated credibility in international relations.
Not to mention that we have a free trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, with a legal process to adjudicate disputes. But I guess we've already decided that Trump is above the law — and never mind the damage to US credibility (we are not a nation that can be trusted to honor agreements) 5/

My hot take as someone who analyzes election data for a living is that Nate Silver approaches election analysis from the perspective of a toxic bro & long ago jumped the shark in too often giving vibes-based analyses over data-based ones. He's best blocked & ignored on any social media site.

The second largest source of imported tomatoes? Canada.
