I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

Ok, I decided to (for now) move my Bluesky account to @eurosky.social considering basically everything currently happening in the USA though my longterm plan is likely eventually to host my own Atproto PDS so I generally no longer depend on third party PDSes.

Worst thing about it is that the kids are told social media is terrible and that’s why you can’t use it - at the same time as all the adults around them spend hours on it everyday. It’s like telling a kid you can’t have sweets because it’s bad for you as you’re chomping on your third mars bar.

Banning under 16s from social media. I am very firmly against. There is a lot that’s harmful to kids but banning is not going to solve it. I was under 16 once and I know how we all got around the law. It makes it less safe, always.

I'm not even saying that's the most *likely* possibility, but it's just very clear that the likelihood of that outcome as increased and even if there's, like, a 1 in 10 change that "AI replaces most to all white collar jobs in 10 years" that's an *enormous* risk to the social order!
