one of the main reasons trans healthcare moved away from strict gatekeeping and toward informed consent & GAC is that trans ppl who were denied the means to transition would simply seek it out elsewhere

I watched Xena last night and it was the episode when she met her father. When Gabrielle attacked Xena near the end of the episode I gasped and yelled “Gabrielle!” and startled my cat. She was not responsive to my shock at what was happening in the episode.

To compromise your wishes, your morals, your self out of advance compliance with the edicts of strangers, is cringe." I reach for my phone to try to find a way out of the confrontation. "Always, Nichole, you rely on external means to avoid accountability for your own desires, your own needs. Is that not cringe? Is it only cringe when someone dares to commit fully, with confidence, to assert herself?" Shit, she's sort of got me pinned there. Rhetorically and physically, in a position I'm choosing to have no strong opinions on, I think. The X-Files is genuinely a timelessly good show, because when not focusing on overarching conspiracy plot, they would really just focus on a single concept and quite crucially, it would cast an incredible actor to center the episode around who would be utterly god damn captivating to watch.

Wikipedia: Lia Purcell Smith (March 7, 2004 - October 18, 2025) was an American student at Middlebury College who died by suicide on October 18, 2025, at the age of 21. She was reported missing by her father on October 19, 2025, and her body was found by the Vermont State Police near Middlebury College's organic farm in Cornwall, Vermont, on October 24, 2025. Smith had been a member of the Middlebury Panthers women's swimming and diving team but left the team in 2023.
