Warning y’all all right now, I am legit going to spend three solid years openly laughing at every single utterance of “you don’t care about marginalized groups” from the party that wouldn’t even let a single fucking Palestinian speak at their last convention.

At this point, the people who say they will vote for Newsom are the ones threatening Democratic success. Nobody else wants their crush and they need to get over it.
In reality, these are the people DESPERATELY trying to make you understand, with literally YEARS of time to course-correct, that you are simply not going to brute-force an electorate into voting for the Trolley Problem again. "I'm not voting for Newsom" isn't a threat; it's a warning.

The biggest project I've worked on for the last chunk of years was just published. It asks, how big are US Black-white lifespan differences?

This might seem like a narrow question. I hope to convince you by the end that there are answers you didn't anticipate. And I hope some of them will move you.
Three Ways of Looking at Black–White Mortality Differences in the United States | Annual Reviews
Everyone agrees that US Black deaths happen earlier than white deaths on average, but it is surprisingly challenging to find the best ways to summarize, quantify, and compare this gap. This review arg...

what fascists and centrists do is gatekeep the future by insisting on prerequisites. it is true that some things require prior preparation -- i'd like abolition of prisons and i know that has to start with defeating fascists. it's a very bumpy road. but too many prerequisites & there is no future.

It's been 36 days since Donald Trump invaded a sovereign state, abducted its leader, and declared that the United States will "run" that state indefinitely.

Still no member of the House has introduced articles of impeachment connected to these actions.

Today would be a great day to do so.

This is unreal. An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.

But also, and this speaks to the sort of clarity of thinking that’s really needed in this grim political moment, there’s a difference between expressing despair because you’re feeling despair and want solidarity in its expression and viewing despair, in all contexts, as more sophisticated than hope.
