Perhaps the flu hysteria is being somewhat manufactured...

This is a year-by-year comparison of hospital admissions with flu using the latest data up to 30 Nov.

Yes, this year’s flu season started a few weeks earlier than normal. But otherwise, its pattern looks very similar to 2022/23 and 2024/25. 3/10

Thanks for some sensible analysis! Frustrating listening to alarmist media coverage. Not a word on ventilation or what type of masks to use. Just talk of hand washing and pics of people in surgical masks. Where are the gov info broadcasts? Have we learnt nothing over the past 5 years...seems not.
PS1: Yes, get a flu vaccine. Yes, if you’re sick avoid mixing with people and wear a mask (preferably an FFP2 one). Yes, if you are in a crowded indoor space, you might consider wearing a mask to reduce your chance of infection (again, FFP2 one). But this is good practice every winter!

AI is a runaway train and I’d like to get off at the nearest station.

I’ll jump off and roll down a hill like they do in the movies if I have to.

Trump’s nominee to be the Army’s lawyer is confused about the First Amendment.

Independent journalists must be free to report the facts without fear of retaliation.

If we're sending troops to war under false pretenses, Americans have a right to know.

How can the most powerful, most wealthy, country in the world fail so badly. Clearly, there is a fine line between strength and weakness, but currently, the word that comes to mind that describes the current USA gov is INCOMPETENT! So much childlike finger pointing. Ridiculous.

Curse of private equity.

After US hospitals were acquired by private equity firms, patient death rates in the emergency depts rose by 13% compared with similar hospitals.

PE cut staffing, wages, investment; hiked profits.

People killed for profit.

Yet UK handing healthcare to PE.
Death rates rose in hospital ERs after private equity firms took over, study finds
The increased deaths in emergency departments at private equity-owned hospitals are most likely the result of reduced staffing levels, researchers say.

The PFI disaster

Wes Streeting readies more of the NHS for privatisation. Hands £6m to advisers.

NHS will be a shell doling out contracts to private equity and corporations. Profits guaranteed.

Money will buy less. Higher taxes, lower value.

Say NO to privatisation of the NHS.

Back in 2019 I led a research effort to digitize old climate model projections and assess how well they did. Turns out they got future warming pretty spot on!

@cyclingnews.com Can there be a campaign that reminds our cycling community that it is not OK to discard litter on the roadside outside organised events? Some poor local residents have to clear it up afterwards. It gives all cyclists a bad name.

Our politics and media have become viciously obsessed with immigration. Farage has made sure of it. And in that obsession, they’ve all lost sight of the people they target. Fellow human beings trying to live and belong somewhere.
Shame on everyone responsible for this daily inhumanity

The even more unbelievable crime fact (which I learned relatively recently) is that burglary has fallen by more than 90% since the 1990s.

Did anyone notice? Nope. Does anyone believe it? Nope. But is is true? It is!
