My players never fail to reminisce about the time they got trapped in a room with two exists and a gargoyle head that was slowly letting gas in. The exit doors had different DCs. They decided to open the easy one first, only to discover a second gargoyle head. The panic that set in 😆

When it comes to traps, simpler is often better. The less of a Rube Goldberg machine it is, the more likely the players are going to actually trigger it. If your trap needs multiple triggers and complex mechanisms, it doesn't take much for a party to gum up the works somehow.

Good advice for #OSR type games, but don't do this in #D&D unless you want your Players to not play martial classes anymore. Poor fighter already got screwed enough.
If you have players wearing super heavy armor, remember that water can be a hell of a hazard. Most heavy armors severely hamper swim skills, so a pit of water in a dungeon can be just as dangerous as a pit of spikes. Possibly even worse, depending on depth.

Why is it always the GM that gets pushed to do these? You can do all these things as a player too. Be proactive. Make plans and suggestions for what to do. Get other PCs involved in a scene. Ask other PCs about their background and thoughts on the situation. etc.

RPG Tip: As the game master, you are the energy at your table. Being confident enough to do silly voices, keep everyone involved, seem a bit ridiculous goes much further than you think.

Big move for #D&D. My guess would be that WotC wants to recreate the ecosystem GamesWorkshop has with #Warhammer and the Black Library and games studios like FatShark and Bulwark.

After playing our first session of Daggerheart, we talked and and we concluded that we missed my personalized character sheets. So I spent two days working on adapting my custom D&D sheets for Daggerheart 🤗 #ttrpg #daggerheart #oc

Saw a cute drawing. Wanted to see if I could do something similar. I do like how it turned out 👀

Time once again to post the meme

Once you are done binge watching YouTube advice channels this is the logical next step.
I think the equivalent to the treasure trove of design tech that is osr blogs (which I learn a LOT from despite not making osr) on the non-osr side is small itchio ttrpg pdfs. focused tech that’s easy to digest since the game is <16 pages. only discoverable thru bundles. order vs chaos

Scrolling through Itch.io sometimes feels like reading a meme chat. Except you can buy and play the meme. #ttrpg

One of my fave one-shot (usually campaign starters) for #ttrpg is to have all the players start when their cryo pods open and they step out with no memory.

They get to describe themselves but otherwise have no character sheets, no idea what they are good at and no idea about the setting.

Its fun.

I played #Daggerheart from #CriticalRole and wrote down my first impressions of it. TLDR I think it's a really good #TTRPG and should at least check it out even if it's not your jam.

Not sure that #Nerds have found the cure for #loneliness, but it sure is a great way to find #friendships as an adult and bond over adventuring together, and it's pretty #therapeutic too.

Nerds have found the cure for America's loneliness epidemic
Fantasy tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons are booming. No longer just for nerds, they're now the hot new hangout.

Table Tip: If you want to maintain an atmosphere/theme but you got childish players, consider setting up a Mutual Pizza Fund. Every time someone does a distracting joke, call for a vote. If majority agrees, the offender pays 1€ into the fund. If there is enough money order pizza for everyone. #ttrpg
GM Tip: Don't take yourself too seriously. Your players will probably find some childish way to mock whatever awesome name, scene or character you came up with. Just roll with it.

I once set up a city just like that. You can even click on the "learn more" button to get a handout of the district. We spend a total of 9(!) sessions there. We spend 27 session in Fort Beluarian just because they vibed more with the Fists.

#TTRPG Gms don't foget to introduce cool factions ASAP

D&D is often described as a "medieval" setting, but it is not.

The closest historical analog to D&D cities would be Renaissance Florence - strong mercantile class, Medici politics, etc.

Outside the cities, it's the American Old West with magic swords instead of guns.

Sage advice: it is better to let your blog be fallow for months or even years than to post even one sentence that was written by artificial intelligence. Have some self respect and write your own thoughts yourself

Today everyone seems to say that the DM should know their players preferences.

Here is something:
#DnD and #ttrpg players, go tell your DM what you like and what you want to see more of. It's your game too.
