The 11th annual international Gender Census 2024 is now open until at least 13th June 2024!

survey.gendercensus.com

It's for anyone whose gender (or lack thereof) isn't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy.

No no no no no no no that’s not how any of this works, do not let Covid positive kids go to class. They have to eat lunch with all the other kids. This is a catastrophe.

You know what’s definitely more important than your family members’ health? Eating at your company Christmas party, not wearing a mask to your college finals, and having jobs and lives that require being in the general public for most of the day.

If your holiday plans are important to you, now and the next few weeks would be a really good time to be extra careful when indoors around others. Covid rates are high and rising and flu and RSV are up there too.
First COVID wastewater data after Thanksgiving shows a significant increase in infections post-holiday.

Per @jpweiland.bsky.social, the number of new infections a day has increased by ~40%, and the number of people currently infected has jumped to 1 in every 39.

An honest and sincere “Fuck You” to everyone who will miss their “dear” family member so much at the holiday gatherings but who cannot be arsed to mildly inconvenience themselves to keep that family member safe. #yesthispostisaboutmasking

"People are too tired to mask" is a BS excuse for inaction.

You can require masks. You can distribute free N95 masks. You can educate people that COVID is airborne.

Unless you are doing all of these things, you have no right to say "people are tired." The fault is yours.

the social value of punching nazis is indisputable but in situations where you can't punch the nazi (e.g. the nazi is a cop, and another cop is watching), it's fine to give nazis bad directions, charge nazis double, bag nazi groceries with the eggs underneath the beer, etc. do what you can.

for those of you who could use a boost this morning:

know there is now a wholesome trend of people installing disco balls inside of their chicken coops, for the sole purpose of “chicken enrichment”

& these chickens are LOVING it, producing more eggs, which is a sign they’re much happier ✨

People really don't get this, probably because the definition of airborne isn't being explained well enough. I always tell people to imagine someone was doused in perfume or smoked in the room. When you walked in would you smell it? That's how the virus acts so you need to mask!
Covid doesn't sit there and count how many people are in the room before it infects you.

If an infectious person was in the room an hour ago then the room is infected even if it's empty.

/3 In the best cases, these interventions reduce the dose of the microbe to a number too low to cause infection. This is the basis of the "swiss cheese" layering defense that was touted early on, and is still important today. My article @ Quanta discusses this. 🧪 MicroSky EpiSky MedSky Public Health

Exposure to a virus isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition. The concept of “infectious dose” suggests ways to keep ourselves safer from harm.

Blows my mind that folks still can't seem to grasp that part of what's driving record low unemployment is the fact that a few more million working age people than normal per year are fucking *dead* now.

ran to the climate civil disobedience at NY's Federal Reserve; by the time I got there, 100+ protesters were arrested—the biggest action of its kind in 9 yrs.

a 23 y/o climate activist told me she came from New Mexico because "We're out of time."

It’s almost like we need a plan to make sure we do indeed have the tools we need in the struggle against Covid. Order your free tests & support public health preparedness more generally.
