But is there reason to believe that maybe this (next) year will be better than the last?
This came to me in a dream

Tons of money is a helluva drug my guy. They will have no problem whatsoever
Just pure, unhinged anti-Muslim bigotry, racism, and hate against Somalis, Afghans, and immigrants of color from the White House and mainstream GOP.

Curious to see how the establishment can continue condoning this as doing politics "the right way."

Noah just out here casually tossing off incredibly dense kernels of real wisdom for free while fools and ghouls are paid obscenely to sell you (and themselves) just total garbage
you can be incredibly inefficient and kill lots of people because killing people is easy; it's keeping them alive that is the difficult logistical problem.

Don’t disagree with calling them traitors, but the founders, while allergic to Christian govt, absolutely wanted a nation governed by a small, rich, and definitely white elite.
I think it's time we start declaring the Trump Administration and their Reeks traitors.

They're traitors to the Constitution.

Their desire to create a white Christian nationalist state is against the founding fathers and the law.

They're the "foreign threat" to America, not immigrants.

Have to agree with Ali here. It seems that the Democratic Party and its leadership are bought and paid for by corporate donors, and do exclusively the bidding of those donors despite the fact that actual Dem voters want wildly different policies
Hakeem Jeffries will never lead the Dems where they need to go in order to help the people.

He will choose restoration over reform because he has been groomed by the Establishment.

I wish people could finally accept this.

If you want good, insightful (incisive even!) commentary on masculinity, Noah is a great place to start. Pithy and Illuminating, with references to specialists who can give you even more. Can’t recommend him enough

(He’s very good on other subjects too)
scott galloway isn't as bad as jordan peterson or donald trump. but the fact that people think he's what passes for a good faith and thoughtful commentary on masculinity is bleak.

Hegseth has already shown a total disregard for preserving important official communications the proper way. Who seriously thinks he’s properly preserved this info, or would willingly (or let himself be compelled to) provide it
Hegseth's failure to deny he ordered Adm. Bradley to kill all of them makes one wonder if that order isn't memorialized in a document. In any case all relevant documents, orders, memos, records of meetings, and videos should be provided to Congress. Along with sworn testimony from all involved.

The “criminal enterprise” is Capitalism. People aren’t ready to realize that, but it is the essence of the truth of our experience
We will have to come up with a new constitutional framework to deal with the reality of the fact that the United States government was taken over by a criminal enterprise.

Seems to me that the so-called “War on Terror” broadened and muddied the kinds of people you could be officially “at War” with. I think that designation should really be limited to nation-states, and rest constitutionally with only the Congress, but I don’t think that’s where we are anymore
This is all true but

1) under no definition are we currently at war with Venezuela under domestic US law

2) since we aren’t, the initial strike was just as much a murder as the follow up

The failure to understand this by a huge range of actors is really driving me up the wall.
If the Venezuelan sailors were enemy combatants, then the 2nd strike is a war crime.

If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder.

It’s that simple.

No United States citizen will ever be held accountable at The Hague. Putting aside how much it might be justified, it will just absolutely never happen.
Not sure who needs to hear this but a US President can not pardon someone being charged for war crimes at The Hague.

Very pithy formulation here. Almost no real wealth is built in a way which respects rules and does not viciously exploit others
The thing about working hard and playing by the rules is that those are not ways you get rich. You get rich first by skirting the rules as much as you can get away with and then paying people to rewrite the rules to your benefit

This is absolutely the best description of secretary Hegseth’s pathology as I have ever seen
also we cannot forget the more ideological reasons (a vision of masculinity that cannot be fulfilled unless it can do war crimes).

Talentless frauds close to the White House are making billions by crashing the American economy and selling out America’s allies. Here’s why democratic socialism is unthinkable.

Administrators just take a long look at their unjustly inflated bank accounts and sleep like babies while the rest of us suffer their incompetence and sycophancy to power and Capital
the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

This is so true. As a TA in many years of grad school I’ve read thousands of pages of absolutely atrocious, awful writing. If you want to your kids to succeed in college make sure they actually learn how to write well. Don’t trust that their school will give them that
Your kid got into a great college because of excellent high school grades, and you're aghast that they're now getting low grades on written work. There could be a number of valid reasons, but more often than not, they just don't know how to write.

They’re fucking up D&D for their racism now too? WTF
Some on the right, including Elon Musk, are misinterpreting the game Dungeons & Dragons—and the intention behind its original story—to further a racist agenda, @adamserwer.bsky.social argues: theatln.tc/YRKYtIjQ

You don’t have to have specific military experience to know this is the case, but it’s useful for Veterans and those with the appropriate credentials to really underscore this point
Let me sum it up for non-military folks:

Senator Mark Kelly didn’t violate any military laws. None.

Hegseth’s little bitch ass has been ordered by Trump to retaliate against Sen. Kelly for speaking out, and Hegseth does what Daddy tells him to do.

That’s all this is.

Right on. Forgiveness without real contrition and work to repair the wrong by malefactors is an awful policy
Everyone should read @theradr.bsky.social book, "On Repentance and Repair." Then, we should hold people responsible for repenting and repairing the damage they've done
Reconciliation without reparation is one of supremacy's greatest sabotages of the act of repair. Whenever abuse is exposed, it offers free exoneration to the abuser at the expense of the abused, and calls it redemption. It's the traditional and popular response to abuse in our supremacist society.

The Democratic Party, it increasingly seems, does not exist to give its voters what they want, but to give its corporate donors what they want. I’m not convinced those donors want anything substantially different from what Republican Party donors want
Why are the Democrats not using their text network to tell us about this instead of begging for donations in a way everyone hates?

This doesn’t matter if there aren’t eyes on this and people prefer to give money when they see stuff being done!

Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is just magisterial, if a bit intimidating in size. But well worth it
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

So true - Teen Vogue was doing the kind of real incisive Journalism that the media pretends big papers/ magazines do, rather than serving as servile sycophants for the powerful
Infuriating to think that in just two months, Conde Nast's Vanity Fair hired Nuzzi while Conde Nast's Vogue absorbed and neutered Teen Vogue, laying off a number of talented writers who can write, and think, circles around Nuzzi.

Again for the people in the back:

“Racists in the northeast are not better or less racist.”
No. I spent plenty of time in the south and the last time I saw a Confederate flag out in the open it was hanging in a window in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Racists in the northeast are not better or less racist.
