Normally when you have a government shutdown it's because there's a funding lapse. Tonight we have a government shutting down lots of itself by fiat. This is something new.

A visual to show how the billionaire donors (and their spouses!) got better seats than anyone else including Trump’s Cabinet nominees.

Don’t threaten me with a good time

I’ve identified the moment when I’m going to lose my mind:

when Hakeem Jeffries refuses to use the debt ceiling as leverage bc [something about good government] and we do like it when they do it and we can’t deny them the budget for their agenda (concentration camps)
democrats are going to have a chance to be disappointing in ways that you cannot possibly comprehend
Republicans are looking at cutting Medicaid and nutrition assistance as a way to partially offset the cost of tax cuts that disproportionately help the rich.

Yes. It's distressing how many people seem to genuinely believe that Harris ran on identity politics (she didn't), while Trump didn't (he did, effectively to the exclusion of everything else).
For a subculture that professes to hate identity politics, these people routinely make certain identity characteristics not a minor but the *focal point* of their critiques.

Like, in this delightful little contrast, one of the two is gay. That's it. That's the criticism.

The party that is obsessed with child sex offenders, & is close to a cult that claims child sex offenders run the government, just nominated a guy once investigated for allegedly sex-trafficking a 17 year old girl to be in charge of the country’s legal system.

Beyond parody.

I think this is what going mad feels like. I’m whipsawing between laughing at how preposterous these choices are and abject horror that this clown car of grifters and hacks is going to occupy positions of critical importance to US law enforcement & national security.

It cannot be overstated that Musk's actual knowledge of how government works is not much more complex than "billionaires are always right, government is always stupid"
I think this, of all things, is what truly did it for me
