PORTRAITS OF DECAY is out NOW! I couldn’t be prouder of this book—the short story is such a fundamental part of the horror genre, it feels especially exciting to see my work collected.

To kick off PORTRAITS’ birth, I wanted to talk about some of the works that served as its inspiration.

Your friendly semi-regular reminder that the single greatest way to help your favorite authors is to rate and review the books you've read. Goodreads, Itch, Kindle, they all give you the opportunity to rate/review and it REALLY helps us get visibility!

I'm thinking about how creative ideas are a dime a dozen and an artist's concern over idea "theft" often indicates a fear that their voice is replaceable. To assuage that fear, an artist must develop confidence that their voice matters, even in a crowd.

PORTRAITS OF DECAY by Carson Winter & STRAW WORLD AND OTHER ECHOES FROM THE VOID by Erik McHatton were both excellent, especially if you like your horror dripping with existential despair. I highly recommend both these collections. 🖤🖤

I don’t have a debut horror of my own to promote this year.

His body hung limp on our door, always facing inside, never out.

When I asked my mom about this, she said, “Well, we wouldn’t want to scare the children.”

“It scares me though,” I said. “I’m a child.”

Happy Halloween! What a month!

This year, we kept a rigid schedule. We had Audio Tuesday nights where we'd listen to a horror story together, we did horror subgenre bingo cards to determine our latest watches, we did Throwback Thursdays to rewatch old classics.

My dream of playing the unhinged weirdo in a found footage horror film came true, thanks to @carsonwinter.bsky.social & Sarah’s Halloween holiday greeting “card.”
We filmed this in our house, with a special guest appearance from @patrickbarb.bsky.social as our Expert in the Occult. It was a blast. It was a pain. But I'm so glad we did it. Without further ado: youtu.be/6x1RXIhKhD4

We always get a little ambitious around Halloween. This year, my wife and I have done all the usuals—movies, board games, haunted houses, etc. But one project has eclipsed them all.
