His body hung limp on our door, always facing inside, never out.

When I asked my mom about this, she said, “Well, we wouldn’t want to scare the children.”

“It scares me though,” I said. “I’m a child.”

We always get a little ambitious around Halloween. This year, my wife and I have done all the usuals—movies, board games, haunted houses, etc. But one project has eclipsed them all.

Just finished @michaelwehunt.bsky.social’s THE OCTOBER FILM HAUNT and loved it.

Lyrical prose, engrossing, and refreshingly bleak.

Great commentary on the genre, especially the elevation of fandom into identity and faith.

Recommended for fans of literary horror and weird fiction.

On my very dumb podcast I asked for readers to please send me shots of PORTRAITS OF DECAY with a dick in between the pages as a bookmark.

Thank you to @ninamiller.bsky.social for hearing the call and giving me a much more acceptable alternative.

Everyone else—I’m waiting.

As of August 15, A SPECTRE IS HAUNTING GREENTREE has been out for one year. And wow, what a year it's been. I've always seen this book as something of a black sheep in my catalog, but I wanted to take some time to reflect on it. /THREAD

35 years old and I just saw STAND BY ME for the first time. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was better than that.

I’m not very spiritual, but when life gets tough, sometimes you gotta embrace giving yourself over to a higher power.

When I’m job searching I like to build a Godzilla shrine and offer him sacrifices (buildings!) to do something with all the nervous energy while waiting.

Praise to the King.

"One of the absolute best collections of short stories I've ever read. Winter is one of the best at writing Weird fiction and these tales prove it. These stories are, in classic Carson Winter style, bleak, unsettling, transgressive, and beautiful."

PORTRAITS OF DECAY is out now.

Thank you to @erikmchatton.bsky.social for the lovely, wonderful review.

It's one thing to write a book, it's another to feel heard and seen. I'm so proud of PORTRAITS OF DECAY as a culmination of everything I've learned since I started this writing journey.

Shameless birthday post! I have now reached age 35! How the fuck did that happen???

If you feel like supporting me in any way today, I just had my first collection, PORTRAITS OF DECAY, released a couple days ago. FFO: Evenson, Ligotti, Jackson, Barron, Files.
June 18, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Brian Evenson’s A COLLAPSE OF HORSES scared the shit out of me. Specifically “Black Bark,” which I’ll stand by as the scariest story I’ve ever read. Evenson writes alienation like no other. He reduces common experience into its uncanniest seedlings.
