#AcademicSky: Has anyone ever had an article languish in administrative review (before getting to the editor) for weeks? Today, it's been 3 wks since I submitted a new paper & it hasn't moved. Never happened before!

Sickening, really. "When Zane confided that his pet cat – Holly – once brought him back from the brink of suicide as a teenager, the chatbot responded that Zane would see her on the other side. “she’ll be sittin right there -— tail curled, eyes half-lidded like she never left.”"
This goes so far beyond creepy.

Please, PLEASE, I am begging you as both a parent and someone who is sick of all this THIS, go vote for your school boards. Even if you don't have kids, that's how these reactionary dipshits got their feet in, that's where the book bans and library cuts start.

i'm a very biased party here but pretty much everything about the Mamdani campaign and the discourse around it thus far is a pretty thorough vindication of Africana Studies
It is worth saying that putting “Africana studies” in scare quotes as if it’s a ridiculous concept is not a political argument. It’s just racism. “Africa is not worthy of a major” is the implication. Yeah dude you’re just racist. (From Gerard Baker at the WSJ today)

good time to respectfully tap the "please support worker-led, billionaire-free, independent news" sign
For any unfamiliar with the quality of journalism at Teen Vogue, it's well known for hard-hitting stories on "politically sensitive" topics including climate.
Then there's CBS: the only major network to increase climate coverage in the last few years. They just axed nearly their whole climate team.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

This is just mind-bendingly wrong-headed. ‘Let’s just adapt, tech will save us’ has always been a reckless strategy, but as evidence mounts that natural carbon sinks are failing it really does start to sink into a form of climate denialism.
