Exactly! Not that I have a spouse, but if I had one and wanted to take them to an event, we don’t need two copies of the same book!
it also makes it harder to build a family literacy environment. you can’t take your whole family without spending a lot of money!

As I said, I know exactly why bookstores now have so many ticketed events! But there's absolutely a benefit to building a community that supports writers and readers with free events, too. Bc I have lived in those communities!
Book stores are a business. There is no benefit to them if you just show up and do not make a purchase.

I am having to print out a lot of thick documents for current projects and I have to use binder clips to keep them together and it’s been so long since I used them, it’s truly delightful in a deeply weird way

I understand the financial reasons why indie bookstores now do a whole lot of ticketed events that requiring you purchasing the book, but really miss the days where you could go to a reading to discover if you wanted to buy the book or just, like, to support the local lit scene.

And I'm saying this as someone who has made A LOT of very poor decisions in her life yet still managed never to fuck a source, even when I was drunk and single and in my 20s and getting hit on and they were way cuter than RFK. I had a choice, and I walked away! It's pretty easy to do!
If you're an adult reporter sleeping with a source, you're not a victim. Don't care how powerful the source is. Women can (and should) own their part in things! Letting yourself get seduced by someone is a CHOICE. It's not just, like, "Whoops! I fell into someone's arms and slept with them!"
