It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

This is my backyard. One component of this that I haven’t seen anyone mention is that the two people who went to trial and were convicted of public corruption are being pardoned, while the third person—who was also in on the scheme but turned snitch—will go to prison. The message there seems clear.

A goal of the Trump administration is dismantling the Department of Education. Now, with fewer special education protections, parents are turning to special education advocates.

This is largely a phenomenon of high income families leaving public schools.

The highest income 20% of districts have lost more public school students than the other 80% combined (lower income districts have largely recovered enrollments).

I find it super helpful to talk about reading growth using NWEA data. However, since it’s not technically a nationally representative sample, is the data biased? if so, would the results be similar even if representative? www.npr.org/2025/10/14/n...
In reading, the nation's students are still stuck in a pandemic slump
New 2025 testing data shows third- through eighth-graders scored far below 2019 levels in reading. In math, some grades have made gains, but all are lagging compared to before the pandemic.

The U.S. president just ordered all the military generals to an unprecedented gathering in Washington, then told them that they should plan to participate in a war on American cities.
Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"

We can't let them normalize utilizing the military for domestic law enforcement. It should not be easy or convenient. It should be a difficult decision a president considers in only rare, emergency situations. And once it becomes routine, it isn't easily undone.
And here you go. I honestly do not understand the moral cowardice that leads some of our fellow citizens to not speak out against what's going on.
