In 217 days people from all over the globe are going to congregate in LA to watch extremely intense sporting matches in public. What's the strategy to welcome these fans if we're tear-gassing anyone who dares to drink a Modelo on the sidewalk?
Winning streak
It's past time to expand LA's celebratory capacity to match the records of our world-champion teams

They only live to get radical. They don't have any real understanding of the sea, so they'll never get the spiritual side of it.

Surprising to discover that the hardest part about trying to be brave is that sometimes it feels virtually indistinguishable from being stupid.

Thought I would swing by the Bombay Yacht Club while in Mumbai like I’m the Protagonist in Tenet but of course it’s members only and I can’t get in so ended up settling for the Starbucks across the street

This entire post is insightful but especially loved this line: “I think this vulgar positivism itself is the problem, the way it has made people talk about their “priors” instead of their beliefs.”

Saw a poster in Elysian Park offering a $2000 reward for a missing ferret and now I’ve got my eyes peeled, staring down every squirrel and small rodent I encounter

The annoying spam texts destroying the Democratic brand:

$678M raised through those spam tactics

$282M to one consulting firm: Mothership Strategies.

$11M to actual campaigns (1.6%)

The party isn’t just treating donors like marks—it’s being fleeced itself yet continues to back Mothership.
The Mothership Vortex: An Investigation Into the Firm at the Heart of the Democratic Spam Machine
How a single consulting firm extracted $282 million from a network of spam PACs while delivering just $11 million to actual campaigns.

Miami is wild, not a huge city but you can get ceviche at 1am and there are iguanas wandering around on the sidewalk, maybe I should move here

It’s hard to overstate how angry rank and file Dems are at the Dem establishment right now. And if I were a self-preservationist incumbent I would take note.

It's one of those things like "the velvet underground only sold 6,000 records but everyone who bought it started their own band" but for everyone who answered "yes" to this being given a national newspaper column
"Do you want America to be at war with Iran?"

No: 85%
Yes: 5%

Walking over to the DTLA protest now, the beautiful day and friendly crowd only marred by the menacing sounds of multiple helicopters overhead
June 14, 2025 at 5:33 PM
This curfew is ridiculous, it’s totally fine right now in 99% of that area. Honestly the most disruptive thing all day has been the constant whine of helicopters and sirens from LAPD cars seemingly driving around in circles for no reason
June 11, 2025 at 3:09 AM
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about the effectiveness of protests, but when the numbers look like this, we shouldn’t be surprised that nobody in LA cares what Adam Schiff has to say about it
