The Elizabethans were right,
it's pronounced candle-light,
to rhyme with 'fire and fleet,'
just like 'this ae night.'

Edamame beans, like rocket and tahini, are one of those ingredients that are fine, just fine, no problem with them whatsoever, but for some reason I cannot fathom chefs just LOVE.

The book I am reading has mentioned in passing that Dylan Thomas was a beer drinker in London and only really turned to whisky when he went to America, and now I can't shake the idea that terrible American beer killed Dylan Thomas.

Gonna pay attention to cats when they tell me something useful, not before.
"The team hypothesized that men 'require more explicit vocalizations to notice and respond to the needs of their cats.' In other words, the researchers are suggesting that many cats have concluded that men don’t always listen, and adjusted their behavior accordingly."

It is remarkable how many really thorny multithreading problems can be solved using a technique I like to call 'very big array.'

The "UK Editor of ITV News" complaining about the tyranny of the news cycle
It’s a sign of how insane the news cycle is these days that this historic failure of government policy got just one day of news coverage this week.

Not saying that’s right or wrong, but it’s astonishing how quickly the agenda moves on these days.
BREAKING: UK’s response to Covid was “too little too late”. Acting faster could have saved 23,000 lives in England according to the public inquiry.

Boris Johnson presided over a “toxic, sexist, chaotic culture” in No10, where rule-breaking seriously undermined public confidence.

The fact that people risk their lives to come to the UK from France says these people are strongly committed to the UK and we should fucking cherish them as opposed to people who hate the BBC and the National Trust and the RNLI and every other British institution who should fuck off to Dubai.
But why are they coming here? How? You're imagining fictional versions of reality based on your own leftist fantasies. You tell me why people are risking their lives to reach the UK, from France.

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

It got better once the creature turned up and starting killing off Victor's friends and family (which served him right for being a whiny little bitch). The line "I demand a creature of another sex, but as hideous as myself" will never not be hilarious though.
I've a lot of trust in Del Toro, but I'm halfway through reading the source material and it's bunk.
Apparently Guillermo Del Toro has ruined Frankenstein by… being relatively faithful to the source material.

Oh my.

My guess is this reflects a general disappointment with Starmer coupled with a lack of partisan loyalty in the UK (as opposed to the very partisan US where loyalty buoys Trumps numbers), but why did Starmer get almost no honeymoon at all?
