A gang of unknown masked men waving big guns, yelling, warning bystanders to stand back as they aggressively grab Latino-looking people off the street or out of their cars.

Are you watching a kidnapping or a legal immigration detention?

If I can't tell, I'm CALLING 911!

my view is that everyone should be able to earn a living wage doing whatever it is they like. if you love working in a bookshop, you should be able to live a comfortable life doing so. if you loving being a barista, the same. and if you want to do more traditional blue collar work, that’s cool too!
the other thing is that no one who fetishizes manual labor actually cares to improve life for people who are in those circumstances! no support for unionization or a generous welfare state! no interest in policies that make life easier for people who work their hands or afford them more autonomy!

This is why I hate the emergence of a legal literature that undermines the plain text. The Citizenship Clause was created precisely to moot the debate. These newly fabricated theories and deeply problematic histories of citizenship were a central part of what the 14th Amendment was intended to stop.

Many products sold in the U.S. are made in El Salvador. In response to the El Salvador president’s statements today, we’re calling for an immediate boycott of all Salvadoran-made goods. Please help by listing any products or brands made in El Salvador in the comments below.

They don’t care.

They don’t care that the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 to bring an innocent man home to his family.

They don’t care.

They think it’s funny.

Bone chilling.

A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States.

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0.

1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

Again, I get why people don't take things Trumps says at face value because, well, he lies all the time and says lots of things. BUT one thing he's really be consistent about - in the same way he's been on consistent about tariffs - is that the dollar is overvalued

Wow. @mattcameron.bsky.social suggests that somehow ICE has gotten the ability to delete cases from the immigration court’s central database, something they obviously should not be able to do. It’s not clear if we’re talking about some form of technical glitch or something deliberate.
UPDATE: ICE is wildly unconcerned about where this man is and no one will tell me, his registered attorney. The universal answer so far is "let's wait and see where he ends up." This is deeply off.

We would have more rights at this point if UPS had lost a pair of shoes I'd just bought from Zappos
My detained client was scheduled for a bond hearing this AM in a MA immigration court. He wasn't brought in, and he and his case have disappeared.

I then received this notice of activity on a nonexistent docket in which his name was changed to "N/A"

It's all happening a lot faster than I expected

this is a good post and "decadence" is a good way to think about a lot of things. true decadence is, eg, thinking you could let an insurrection go unpunished and the country would just keep chugging along nbd

Here's a bright idea; rather than toss aside the foundational principles of our country because "due process too hard," let's do what Congress did when faced with this issue multiple times in the past; create a path to legal status for those in the country already, allowing us to clear backlogs.
And here we go -- Fox News is now saying we should get rid of "due process" because it's too cumbersome.

Brian Kilmeade: "But I also think it's not practical to think that we can do due process on 8 million people."
