It's only breaking the law if the law requires you to do it. And the law only requires you do something if there's a punishment when you don't. Otherwise it's just a legal polite request.
Missing the deadline = breaking the law.
Deputy AG Blanche just said the Trump DOJ will miss the Epstein files deadline.

He says "several hundred thousand" docs will be released today, "and then over the next couple weeks, I expect several hundred thousand more."

All files are required by law to be released today.

After decades of being told that something can't happen due to obscure legal niceties, a lot of people are discovering that the penalty wildly illegal stuff is that two years from now a judge says "ok but don't do it again," so I think it's a fair reaction to people who are still saying this stuff.
NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

I refuse to believe these two upstanding citizens would ever do anything illegal like underage drinking.

"Well I see your "lock all your products up and take 10 minutes to open it for people when they want to buy things", and raise you..."
Anti-loitering speakers have been installed in the parking lot of Home Depot in Cypress Park, following a recent Border Patrol raid. “It’s like a sonic ice pick–just stabbing you,” says audio expert Dustyn Hyatt.

The Elkhart Bears has a ring to it. Could be great.
Dying at Kevin Warren issuing a statement about the Bears looking at sites in Indiana for the stadium since Illinois won't give them enough money and putting "this is not about leverage" in it lol

Starting to think we should view the Turing test as a test of the person rather than the computer.
If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers

The number of cop cars that go zooming by, completely failing to notice the car they were chasing sitting there upside down says a lot about how normalized cars driving into things has become.

One thing I think the next Democratic Party president needs to do is declare that for the next month anyone who wants to can just sign up to be an American citizen online, resident or not.

In the last year Walz has picked up a big liability (the fraud issue, fair or not), and alienated a big block of supporters.

He's popular outside of Minnesota, but not a strong candidate for governor right now, not at all. In a wave election he could still pull it off, but so could anyone else.

Americans are fundamentally unable to understand society, or institutions, as a thing, and when they hear "speed limit" they imagine it being limited exclusively to them personlly having to go slower while everyone else drives like they do right now.
one of my longstanding takes is that car manufacturers should be forced to install mandatory speed limiters in every new vehicle and people react to that like I'm advocating to strip them of their right to free speech

It's easy to see how poorly they've assimilated by looking at how all of their neighbors in Minnesota are ok with having ICE roaming around assaulting them, and how no one is getting really, really, really mad about it.
Weird thing to brag about right now.

Haven’t read it, but I wonder if it discusses how the Bush administration treated the entire Somali-American population as suspected terrorists after 9/11. Or how the Bush DEA cracked down on qat cafes like they were crack dens.

This makes me feel sad. I just wish George Orwell could have survived to see this movie, with me there to watch him do it.

I've seen people argue that Governors and Mayors are reluctant to tell the police to enforce laws of this because they believe the police will just refuse, and reveal that they're a lawless gang outside of public control.

If so I think it's time to pull off that bandaid and make it clear everyone.
Multiple U.S. citizens have been arrested during ICE operations.

The forcefulness, lack of communication, and unlawful practices displayed by federal agents will not be tolerated in Minnesota.

I'm sure it was all just some kind of misunderstanding, and everyone was acting in good faith. Talking it out should fix the problem.

Very on brand that they're rappelling in from a helicopter and scampering around like operators to seize a civilian freighter from a country we are not at war with, as if they could not just pull up next to it in a boat and tell them they've seized it.

LLMs are the Segway of the 2020s.

It's a Segway because it's massively over hyped as the way of the future, and likely to fade out into an expensive novelty with some limited applications.

It's of the 2020s because it's unbearably dumb and also a catastrophe for everyone.
"ai is inevitable" is a high accuracy indicator of "I am a sucker"
"the tech is inevitable" is not the winning argument you think it is in this debate*

I have stopped wondering if she had an editor at all, and started wondering why her editor was actively suggesting things to her to make her book worse.
Truly sorry to keep posting these but I cannot believe this book is real.

I'm sure the shift to the E line will be good, but man. I rode the 6 to the University when I moved here, and then I shifted straight to riding the 6 further to work. It's like losing a room in my apartment.
Final ride on the Metro Tranit (Twin Cities) Route 6. Nice crowd of U of MN types, probably 25 of us early in the route. Tomorrow the replacement E Line bus rapid transit bus starts. Tonight as always I will be getting off at a stop that the Route 6 honors but the E Line will not.

I love this. More organizations should do this kind of thing, and do it this blatantly.

Eventually it's not even flattery it's just insulting him to his face in a way he's psychologically incapable of recognizing.

So many people hate this plan because it is "monstrous", "tacky", and "a relentless public humiliation for the entire country", but personally I love it (same reasons).
