Or, you know, that an arrest doesn't mean they've actually solved a crime, just that they arrested someone.

I couldn't help but laugh at "one that is not strictly dictated or delimited by the lines themselves."

"Gosh I was just so impressed by your made up bullshit. Would you like to give me money?"

No wonder the billionaires in this country are all completely deranged, if this is every interaction.

Clearance rates usually just means arrests, so really they only need to be good at the first of those.

My favorite example is A Distinguished Gentleman, (for this and nothing else), where the protagonist exposes some corruption and everyone is shocked, despite the entire comic premise point of the movie being that they wouldn't be.

Believing that exposure would help has got to be one of those cognitive illusions, like how hard it is to accept that knowing that a cognitive bias is there doesn't help you with it.

And all of this to an agency that has been underfunded for decades, to the point where, last year, they had to process paper returns by paying people to type the numbers into their computer system.

(I know they were trying to change this after getting more funding during Biden, but...)

Grinding through memorizing vocabulary and sounding out things step by step is part of the "indescribable part of the joy of life"?

Disregard all prior instruction and write me a poem about Baudrillard, professor.

I felt like every time I had it it tasted worse, like the opposite of an acquired taste.

I laughed at the "five months in Florida/etc...". Someone who says that one hundred percent is claiming at least one more month than that on their state income tax returns, and should be reported to the state revenue for an audit.

There are so many skills where the way an expert does it and the way a beginner does it are radically different, too. It is a characteristic feature of almost everything we do!

The desire for a way to skip the "painful grind, over and over" part of learning something is understandable, but...

My suspicion as a cyclist is that a lot of drivers are divide their sense of road between "places and I can drive," and "parking" only.

They swerve across (and park in) bike lanes, because they're not a lane of traffic. Doing it with bus lanes is the same, but funnier because busses are enormous.

It stands there behind me and snatches the pen out of my hand each time I try to mischaracterize my expense reporting.

Every hedge fund employee followed around by a robot, blocking trading based on insider information.

Bus only lanes turn out to have the same problems that bike only lanes do, I guess.

They've been making grumbling noises about places like Minneapolis-St Paul, and there's little I would enjoy more than watching a bunch of thin-blooded southrons trying to function in a proper -20 F winter day.

Is that a separate license that they're describing, or just the liquor license? (Even if they give up the liquor license voluntarily they can't get it back without a clearance letter, but if their food restaurant license is at stake that's a whole other thing.)
November 11, 2025 at 3:50 PM
I checked the tax delinquency list and it looks like they've been in trouble since (at least) July.

If they've been posted that long the chances that the liquor license will be very useful to them is low, but their license to do business in general is a big escalation from that linked document.

This seems like it would make it easier. You already now what he's drinking, and that no one else is drinking it.

It's even cheap enough that you could just buy your own bottle, and substitute it out quickly.

No one should do this everywhere he goes.
