KNOW YOUR RISK: GENETICS AND DEMENTIA

🔬 Mutations in APP (chromosome 21), PSEN1 (chromosome 14), or PSEN2 (chromosome 1) give offspring a 50% chance of inheriting Alzheimer’s if a parent is a carrier. If inherited, the risk of developing early-onset Alzheimer’s (before age 65) is extremely high.

This is a really thought provoking piece from Dr Rónán Collins about our hospitals and the lack of care for our elderly and vulnerable. It really brought back to me the fear I experienced every time my dad was hospitalised and how traumatic it was for him.
