This is an account of a pro-democracy journalist, my bias is towards humanity and the health and functioning of society, the environment and all living beings. veracity > neutrality. one need not be objective in the face of harm.

I think @brendannyhan.bsky.social is exactly right in this piece, but I’d go one step further here. Elites very explicitly told young people to sit down and shut up. Society punished them for standing up for their beliefs, and targeted and vilified the organizers. Now we need need them.

jfc. It was determined by a US judge that she could not be deported to Sierra Leone due to danger she would face in the country she fled. So they deported her to Ghana, a country she had never been to, and Ghana deported her to Sierra Leone.

This country is fucking sick. Deeply deeply fucking sick
Woman deported from Maryland shown on video being dragged in Ghana
Rabbiatu Kuyateh was detained this summer at her annual ICE check-in, her son said. She moved to the D.C. area 30 years ago as she fled civil war in Sierra Leone.

Netflix makes writers devise scripts made for people to follow along as they doomscroll. I think Lazarus is the most egregious example I've seen of this. No mystery, so much explained in the first episode

And all it took was a positive embrace of a socialist lol
Finally, the media worm is turning on Trump:

*NYT reports Rs quietly looking beyond Trump
*Axios says "red alert" time for Trump/GOP
*Politico reports MAGA culture-war now failing
*Trump clearly declining in many polls

On the pod we parse through all this evidence:

Trump Is a Weak, Failing President, and the Media Is Finally Saying So
As Trump’s downward spiral starts producing harsher media coverage, a writer who regularly dissects MAGA and political media explains why he’s entering a tailspin that will be very hard to reverse.

ICE was created after 9/11. It can be dismantled. Another way is possible. America need change not adjustments
eric swalwell said on msnow that a major goal of a dem majority after the midterms would be for ice masks to come off and badges to come out, this is insufficient

Do you have a few dollars to spare. Leaders across the world are ignoring this issue, it's up to people. Gaza has fallen from headlines but Israel continues its bombing campaign. Hundreds have died from missiles since the "ceasefire" began. Winter cold, flooding and starvation maintain misery.

The schism within MAGA does not mean that the Right will simply destroy itself and that things will automatically get better.

Unless we embrace collective action to address the material conditions that got us here, MAGA will birth a more extreme, even more fascist and Neo-Nazi movement.
It’s true that some MAGA supporters are losing faith in Trump and expressing frustration. But evidence and trends suggest they’re flocking to explicit Fascists and growing more radicalized.

We can’t just sit back and hope. We have to fight.
