Why is it I have to search for news about Sudan? It never seems to be top of page or breaking news.

I wish someone would drop a nuke on United Healthcare. Their cruelty is truly boundless, and they continue to use delay, deny, defend to cause their customers to suffer. Imagine having years of back pain caused by several factors. Imagine jumping through hoop after hoop for care. /1

They should never have put a brain worm in charge of HHS.
RFK Jr. has just removed every member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

These members review vaccine data and make approval recommendations. This is completely horrifying and will likely delay vaccine approvals.

RFK Jr. must be removed from office IMMEDIATELY.

It’s a real shame the Dems aren’t this party 😭
What I wouldn’t give for a party with the discipline to play a long game of rhetorically pulling his momentum and assistance towards retaking the White House, and then almost immediately springing cuffs on him for his many prosecutable personal and business practices over the decades

Oh look GiveSendGo is bragging about how they have Luigi’s fundraiser, but are weirdly quiet about how they’ve also got that racist woman’s fundraiser.

Hearing RFK Jr.’s ignorant take on autism, I am reminded of the remains of an early hominid child found in Spain. The child lived 500 thousand years ago and was born with a congenital cranial deformity that would have made some aspects of life more difficult. /1

This is the Republican way, after all. I saw it constantly when protestors came in for abortions, getting the very same service they wanted to outlaw.
The bipartisan belief that America would be a better place if *other people* worked in a factory.

One more way in which the US is now diminished: “In the race to save lives after the Myanmar quake, US rescuers are notable by their absence”

Day after day, Chinese rescue teams haul children and elderly people from collapsed buildings. Cameras beam the thanks of grateful survivors around the world.

We spend so much more on corporate welfare than on the welfare we spend on human beings. Like, stratospherically more. If you want to root out "waste, fraud and abuse", start there.

I’m up early (for me) at the dentist office and I’ve just heard a country song that I swear had the chorus, “Heeeeeey, Hammurabi.” Is that a thing?

Sincerely I appreciate that there’s a Netflix category called Casual Viewing. Thanks for understanding that the current level of chaos and horror mean that I can’t really focus on anything.

This is why I have zero interest in or patience with generative AI. If you tell me you used AI to write your book, I know that your book was made possible through the theft of MY WORK. 3 of my novels are on this list.

People want to compare our situation to 1939 Germany, bc it lets us think, We won! We beat the bad guys! This more accurate comparison is terrifying to us, bc 25 years later, Russia is still in the thrall of Putin.
Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.
