With any luck, we'll lose Trump in the next 18 months - 2 years. He's the only thing giving Farage juice to do what he's doing over here. Take Trump out of the equation and let Farage have to stand up and make his own position/route clear.
That's when he starts tumbling.

I hate to admit it but I suspect McSweeney is right that the 2029 election will be a ‘republican front’ vs Farage. Farage veering further right makes that easier to do. Whether McSweeney’s own advice over the past year has made this situation more likely is another question…

Lib Dems: We have 12x Reform's MPs, can we have the same coverage?

BBC: But Reform has 2x your poll rating. If there were an election tomorrow, they'd be running the country.

Lib Dems: So you're putting their people and policies under scrutiny, right?

When Boris Johnson overrode security service advice in order to give Evgeny Lebedev a peerage, Keir Starmer (rightly) demanded a full investigation.

Now we learn Starmer did exactly the same thing with Peter Mandelson.

Free speech v Me Speech

“Me speech” is a common practice among rich and influential Americans. Practitioners of “me speech” use the phrase “free speech” quite a bit. But what they mean is free speech for themselves. They want a monopoly on it.

ohhh this is something I keep meaning to write about - think an underrated dynamic in Westminster is that becoming an MP or a peer (usually Tory but clearly sometimes Labour) will push you into a world of people richer than you and some people can resist those siren calls but....not everyone will
I think a lot of well meaning good government types should be thinking closely about Peter Mandelson, and how dangerous it is for a politician to earn enough to give them a taste for yachts, but not enough to afford a yacht of their own.

Farage might be able to manipulate fears over asylum seekers but most of the public are not convinced by conspiracy theories. Seeing stuff like “the King got cancer from the Covid vaccine” under the Reform banner may eventually add up to make voters feel these guys are probably not for government.

Sadly their supporters don't care if the sums add up. They believe in a dream not reality. And as with Brexit, hard facts are never going to overpower a dream. The only hope is to expose Farage as the enemy of the people he really is but, like Boris, it seems to be impossible...

Angela Rayner accidentally pays less tax than she should have, resigns, and the media gives her hell.

Nigel Farage deliberately pays less tax than he should have, and the media gives him a free pass.

That, right there, is the problem.
