If 60 minutes aired the story on the torture of people at CECOT the same week that the US courts ruled that those people had been sent there illegally by Trump that might have substantially magnified both stories. Add in a week abuzz with Epstein revelations and who knows. Merry Christmas Mr. Trump.

Principles who torture people or do things likely to get people tortured seldom want to go "on the record and on camera" for some reason. Although we are talking about the Trump administration here.
this, from Bari Weiss's 9pm editorial call, is just complete and utter horseshit. she can't even do damage control right

A feel good (sort of) story. Rick Steves stepped up for his community when public priorities failed. Seasons Greeting to you Rick Steves, www.npr.org/2025/12/21/n...
Rick Steves steps in to save Seattle-area hygiene center serving homeless residents
Steves purchased the property to prevent it from closing. Many homeless people had come to depend on the Lynnwood Hygiene Center, which had operated rent-free on the property since 2020.

I don't get why more people don't recognize this. It will be a wonderful day when this tactic quits working and people see why 'the haves' want the 'have nots' at each other's throats over 'culture issues' and that 'cultural issues' are mostly differences we should all be able to live with.
Never forget this: The GOP’s nonsensical culture war is meant to distract you from corporate corruption, worker oppression, and staggering wealth inequality.

So much Trump in the Epstein Trump Files (as I now call them) that they spent millions blacking out references to him and still release files with a bunch of references to him.

Transgender and non-binary people typically do not have gender-affirming surgeries before the age of 18. Transgender healthcare prior to that is not surgical, but is shown to reduce suicidality. Reducing suicidality of minors is good. www.hrc.org/resources/ge...

My Starbucks app is getting pretty desperate with the promotions to get me to come back. It will be pretty easy to get me back, just treat your workers fairly. Until then, no lattes for me. If you care about Starbucks employees, support their strike.

Fascism's negative obsession with trans people, particular trans women, is misogyny. Fascism only respects and celebrates the masculine. Fascism worships the masculine and wants women as lesser creatures to be subservient and controlled. Trans women are the ultimate insult and threat to fascists.

"Immigrants, they get the job done". Something I heard somewhere.
Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who tackled one of the Bondi killers, became an Australian citizen 3 years ago.

His deed was "his way of conveying his gratitude for staying in Australia, for being granted citizenship."

He took 5 bullets, and fears he'll lose his left arm.

A few months later, the photographer and director married — and their relationship inspired Mr. Reiner to change the ending of his most famous movie. “Originally, Harry and Sally didn’t get together, but then I met Michele and I thought: ‘OK, I see how this works.’” Harry and Sally had to marry too.

I no longer feel the need to comment specifically on anything he posts. We all know he's shallow, narcissistic, hypocritical, mean spirited, petty, ungracious, self-obsessed, chauvinistic, shallow, close-minded, and ugly. Anytime he posts or opens his mouth he just confirms it.

I'd forgotten about this movie completely. The film THE SURE THING was a much needed bright spot in my 1985. That year was the year of testicular cancer, three surgeries, a car wreak, failed physics class, drinking, graduating HS, then college and started dating the person I shouldn't have married.
I so wish THE SURE THING were streaming somewhere, because I can tell from some of the very appreciative posts about Rob Reiner that a lot of people don’t know it. I’m not sure what happened to it rights-wise, but it’s a real shame.

This is a great observation. And a great metaphor for the artist that puts in the work creating and not prompting, for the self-made people that didn't come from money, and everyone who risks doing something real.
I’ve been seeing this cover over and over and I just…

In the original you’re aware of the horror of falling, but the body positions of the workers are solid on the beam. Here, most of them should be falling off, yet they don’t, because they live in an unreal, consequence-free space.
I guess it's fitting that it's a reimagined, worse version of someone else's artwork

So many examples around right now about how not to act, but here is an example that I can aspire to.
When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

The dialog In Spartacus: House of Ashur reminds me of Deadwood and its flavor of Shakespeare in the best fucking way. I delight in words that fall upon the ear like… Sorry I cannot complete that sentence in a manner that would do it justice. It’s on Starz, but that’s on sale for $1 a month.
