My darkest most cynical take here is that the media clearly wanted this to be the golden ticket to helter skelter, but they have created so much national apathy and desensitization to gun violence that it failed to move anyone to action at all.

I hate everything Charlie Kirk stood for, but I never wanted him dead. I didn’t care enough about him to want him dead. I rarely even thought about him, except to laugh at how poor of a debater he was when I saw clips. I think I’m probably not alone here.
