We went to the wine bar at Emeril’s after this year’s Tulane Research and Achievement Awards. I figure we were all dressed up. Drinks and food were incredible.

I love that they’re using these ancient plates.

Lol. Good luck asserting a copyright claim in the language of a brief, let alone the argument. She should know that fee shifting works both ways. www.cbsnews.com/news/jan-6-d...
Attorneys for Jan. 6 defendants face lawsuits for plagiarism
A Texas-based researcher produced a 26-page study for a defense lawyer in a Jan. 6 Oathkeepers case to argue for a change of venue, which she alleges was "pirated" by other attorneys.

I’m really struggling to see the problem here. Unless you’re a therapist, I guess.
I had a 45 year old rideshare driver tell me recently that he uses AI for therapy.

I asked him which one. He said “Grok— I like the voice it uses, the tone doesn’t talk down to me like ChatGPT’s does.”

He bragged that he had a 4 hour “therapy session” talking to Grok.

Chat, are we cooked?

I, too, would like to get back to interviewing folks, though not at the same breakneck volume that @brianlfrye.bsky.social is able to work at. HMU, especially if you're writing in crim, gender and sexuality, and the intersection of law and geography!
I’d like to record some new Ipse Dixit episodes, what articles or books would you like to hear me discuss? Self-nominations welcome.

Why the hell would anyone buy something like this?
The AWS outage bricked people's $2,700 smartbeds, leaving them in a reclining position or with the heat up. People were unable to use them, basically. A GitHub repo exists that lets people operate their beds without reliance on the normal infrastructure

My IP exams are always 3x1000 word take-home research memos. I encourage students to use their exam answers as writing samples. This week, one of them told me he got a job b/c everyone else used a 1L LRW brief & the partner was impressed to see real writing. Cool!
This is madness. Today we had to send a message to our 1L students telling them it’s not a great idea to use the first drafts of their first legal writing assignments because the new OCI timeline is so early they are wondering if they should.
