Oh I have thoughts on this (am one of those nerds)
Hey transportation nerds, our latest City of a Toronto Lane width guidelines, first released in 2014, were released a few weeks ago, fill yer boots:

Councillor Cheng pretending to delay this when we know that the province is just going to amend the secondary plan anyways like they did with Yonge and Eglinton.
This item was basically a request to endorse the directions in the report and move forward to the next stage of engagement. It looks like Committee will defer at Councillor Cheng's request. This would be a deferral on the proposed community engagement until more community engagement is done.
If you're interested in making this spine a little chunkier, the latest on the North York Secondary Plan should be at Planning and Housing Committee on December 3rd. No new details available yet but opposition from the low-rise Neighbourhood is expected.

Should politicians be held responsible for decisions they make that result in people getting injured or killed? Hard to say. Don't wanna make things too personal.

I'm not worried at all about Daniel Tate because he's going to flame out and move to Chilliwack or something. Voters don't like whiners. Councillors that associate with him do so at their own peril.

Toronto dog owners basically have the same social status as people who vape now.
No. Arguably the real problem is that most cities don't have enough public garbage cans. But their absence doesn't mean the nearest private can becomes a public receptacle. Also, it's just weird to imply that the alternatives to dumping are littering or not picking up

Can you throw dog doo-doo in someone else’s garbage bin? The debate over the ‘politics of poop’
City bylaws. Vigilante justice. It’s an age-old debate that gets neighbours up in arms. “The politics of poop,” one dog owner said, “are intense.”

In the Star, @shawnmicallef.bsky.social writes about underused parking lots and cites a small one at Playter & Danforth. Not far away is larger lot east of Broadview Station that was supposed to be partly repurposed to expand the TTC loop. But the BIA intervened and the loop proposal died.

Found an update on the Jane Street RapidTO project. Project is cancelled south of the 401 in Nunziata's ward. Taken from Maple Leaf/Rustic Road street plan consultation notes: cc @ttcriders.bsky.social

Unacceptable. We need to protect our mom and pop landlords.
"These kinds of changes will make hard-working families less able to defend themselves against large real estate investors. And we have seen one investor taking over and now owns 54,000 units of housing across Toronto," says Chow.

The angel on my shoulder says Marco is probably right, but the devil on my other shoulder says HSR should get an equal amount of consultation as Ontario's Highway 413 (none).
I've done something that I don't do very often. I wrote a short, quick polemic post. It was prompted by a discussion in here.

It's about why I'm still skeptical about ALTO's HSR project and why there is no way around transparency in public projects.

A reality check and a plea for transparency.

Every year the city pretends they're going to rebuild this street, and every year we pretend to believe them.

Opposed banning right turns on red, near zero progress on intersection or crosswalk daylighting, no progress on eliminating Toronto's ridiculous 40m ROW width. It could've been worse, but not a loss.
What a loss for Toronto! After nine years, Barbara Gray will retire from her position as the City's Transportation Services general manager. Toronto must ensure Barbara's permanent successor prioritizes #BikeTO, #WalkTO & #TTC over driving. #TOpoli www.thestar.com/news/gta/its...

This is only half true. Perks dragged his feet for so long on improving Parkside Drive that we’re now stuck with Bill 212. Changes could have been made the same year Valdemar and Fatima Avila died. That was 4 years ago.
"Premier Ford has already done everything in his power to make Parkside Drive less safe!" says Perks, pointing the finger at the province's anti-bike lane legislation for the slow rollout of the plan to narrow the street by installing bike lanes.

Olivia Chow running on a platform would be unprecedented.
🤘🏼I wrote about sweating the small stuff. The city parks dept answered city council’s request to look into destructive practices w a shrug. That’s not good enough. Total park reform is needed & needs to be an election platform. If Chow passes on it, someone else surely will. Pls read & share. 🙏🏼🤘🏼
Shawn Micallef: How Toronto can take a lesson from Van Halen, and learn to sweat the small stuff
Anybody who travels this city knows large vehicles are routinely in parks. It’s disrespectful to Torontonians, a scandalous waste of money, and intrusive to those trying to enjoy the outdoor

As the city has previously and repeatedly explained, screening officers already have discretion to not issue tickets to people going slightly over the limit. This borders on misinformation which I am sure is not Josh’s intent.
…that drivers aren’t penalized if they go slightly over the limit. I’m moving a motion to create a reasonable threshold regarding fines at next week’s City Council Meeting. Leaders don’t just break things. They fix things and make things better. That’s our responsibility, Doug.

I think it’s interesting how the real dividing line in Ontario is the yes or no answer to the question: “Do you literally walk anywhere, even to a bus stop?". You could probably glean so much information about someone’s politics from the answer to that question.

I see the city is sticking to its traffic management plan of “funnel all vehicular traffic onto Adelaide even though there’s no capacity for it". Just absolutely amateur stuff from this city’s transportation department.
I was reading the project website and the impression I got was that the parking lanes would be replaced with rush hour traffic lanes and off-peak parking while maintaining the bike lanes from College to Adelaide. South of Adelaide may see some removals at intersections to accommodate turn lanes.
September 21, 2025 at 3:48 PM
Using a lagging left turn at intersections would eliminate the risk of streetcars getting struck by drivers, but this setup is against city policy. Why? Who the hell knows. Same setup for Eglinton and Finch west.

Wow he's doing a reverse John Tory.
MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MIND
Mr. Adams said that he believed Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee and front-runner in recent polling, would be a risk to the city and suggested that he did not want to play a role in electing him by staying in the race if he had no chance of winning, two of those people said.
