Meanwhile, in Galway, we've been talking *for decades* about how it might be nice to have a pedestrian/cycle bridge over the piers of the old railway line to Clifden, which was shut down in 1935.

De Snelbinder cycle bridge. Opened in 2004, attached to the side of an existing 1879 railway bridge, it runs for 2km linking Nijmegen to Lent by bike, alongside trains. Same crossing, different century. This is what decades of serious investment in cycling and sustainable urban planning looks like.

If Ireland's emissions are "too small to matter" then I might as well evade my taxes and eat doughnuts for lunch.

See how wide, safe, and comfortable the cycle paths are? This is what we deserve in Ireland.

Anything but is simply not good enough.
This bus-and-cycle expressway runs directly from Nijmegen station to the university and hospital in the south of the city. People on bikes and buses get there fast without delays, while motor traffic has to take the longer route.

Priorities matter. This is what it looks like when a city means it.

Glad that Andrew Jackson took the time to write this forensic response to Collison's 'Abundance' piece.

Of course, facts & careful analysis won't prevent the uptake of tech bro neoliberalism by the current Government and many media commentators.

Industry lobbying has to be decoupled from governance
This, in a nutshell, is where we’re at. All the lies, the distraction, NGO-blaming and drive towards even further deregulation is to cover the naked fact that, in Ireland, big polluters pull the strings and our politicians just nod along.

It's hard to express how problematic non-transposition, and non-implementation of environmental law is. It creates a legal vacuum that means decision makers don't know how to handle planning applications, enforcement agencies can't enforce, and the courts are often called in to plug the gap
