The wild thing about all this is that BC is very happy to fully align itself with the project of resource extraction.

But it's never enough. As long as there is ANYTHING protecting the public interest or the living world, it won't be enough for them.

I don't even know what to say anymore
For those unaware of the background here. @tyolsen.bsky.social of @thetyee.ca wrote an excellent article on it.

It’s not just this pipeline, it is others in BC as well, and it will be other utilities like power lines in the near future… potentially.

During the Harper years, i published a short paper about how few convictions there were under the fisheries act for habitat destruction which showed govt was dishonest about the need to reduce habitat protections

As soon as it got legs in the media, they took the data off the web.
Analysis: The Post found that documents recounting President Ronald Reagan’s relations with the Soviet Union in the early 1980s, one of the most dangerous periods of the Cold War, have been removed.

The State Department had deleted history.

H5N1 yoga
Yoga with animals — goats, dogs and cats — has become popular in recent years.

But chicken yoga is another version, offered in a neighborhood where dozens of wild chickens roam the streets, courtyards and sidewalks.
Rescued chickens wearing diapers join monthly Florida yoga class
The chickens mostly walk around the room, cluck at one another and sit on the floor and yoga mats. Sometimes they lounge on people’s stomachs.

I wanted to share probably the most important sermon I’ve given and it’s while I’m being arrested. It’s torture pure and simple what happens at #Broadview. I’m ok, though I was thrown to the ground and choked with my pectoral cross. A review of the video shows I was peaceful - did I deserve this?

Rewatching Star Trek IV.

Still my #1 environmentalism movie targeted at a mainstream audience. Funny, but plays itself straight. Brutally straightforward conservation method, but without seeming preachy.

Almost impossible to imagine this getting made today.

Apparently Oswalt has been banned for this. Not debating the virtues of this policy right now - just noting that Bluesky admins seem to be establishing a hard policy of banning people for death threats, whether folks think of those posts as jokes or not.

Just important to be aware of as you post.
Will Bluesky ban Patton around Christmas? 🤔

The Kremlin disguised a nearly $100 mn payment to Trump in the form of a brokered real estate deal... and both Jeffrey Epstein and William Pulte were involved in the deal. That's very interesting.

Uh oh!
An M.I.T. study found that 95% of companies that had invested in A.I. tools were seeing zero return. It jibes with the emerging idea that generative A.I., “in its current incarnation, simply isn’t all it’s been cracked up to be,” John Cassidy writes. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/mlYgP3

Today’s new IEA WEO “Current Policies Scenario” (CPS) shows global oil demand 13% higher in 2050 than in 2024. The IEA had previously heralded an imminent peaking of oil by 2030, and in today’s STEPS scenario they still say “oil peaks around 2030” - so why is the CPS so very different?

UPDATE: Canada has announced that it has lost its measles elimination status.

This is a direct result of the increase in anti-vax disinformation, which has caused large, sustained outbreaks in the country over the last year.

Deeply disturbing
Canada has just lost measles elimination status. The U.S. will undoubtedly follow shortly.

Elimination means that there is no continuous spreading of measles within the country for a year or longer.

Canada and the U.S. have blown it, and it’s largely the fault of the anti-vaccination movement.
