can't stress enough, as someone who has a lot of experience in media, they know what they are doing when they run provocative and/or genuinely dumb takes. they do not deserve your well-intentioned "marketplace of ideas" counterarguments even a little bit!

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.
They run them bc people react to them the most.
If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.
It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

It always amazes me that Edward Said wrote this in 1986, 15 years before 9/11, and was able to so presciently predict where these framings and discourses would lead us.

As soon as Assad was deposed, Israel forces seized more of Syria’s territory. Now they’re bombing key sites in the country.
Israeli airstrikes attacked the Al-Mazzeh Military Airport in Damascus, Syria. This is a terrorist attack in violation of the new Syria's sovereignty and international law. The attack comes less than 24 hours after Syria gained its independence from the Assad regime.
