Wish I could stick to sports
@alexkirshner.com @rodger.bsky.social As SZD's foremost Kent State subscriber (willing to fight for the title if needed), I wanted to thank you for your recent episode with Rodger. However, I wish you'd have engaged more with the non-football sports of Kent and Akron (my wife went to Akron). 1/2

The surprising thing to me about the delivery vs grocery discourse is the number of people who apparently live alone. I've lived alone for only about 6 months in my life, total. Maybe I'm atypical, but rent is expensive for one person!

I expect to finish the Hugo nominee novels in 2025 (along with French on Duolingo and the AFI top 100 movies list).

Never enough time for all the things, though.

Ooh, a late evening email, let's see what it is

My timeline has turned into only (cautiously) good vibes, which has, ironically, gotten me more nervous

Of note, the NYT’s chief White House correspondent just tweeted ABC’s republishing of AP’s more, uh, detailed story about the Trump rally.

I spent two weeks working on a song only for my guitar teacher to immediately throw out the arrangement and make up her own 🙃

I was watching extra-legally so I can't be sure, but I believe the ACC Network deliberately put Rutgers on TV to not show JMU putting up 70 on UNC.

I'm late to this, but I wanted to memorialize it nonetheless.

@scalzi.com I'm reading all the Hugo nominees (oldest to newest) and just finished my first read of Old Man's War. A healthy chunk of the books I was looking forward to have disappointed, but I loved that one and am looking forward to reading more of yours. Cheers!

How old are you in Internet years without telling us your age?

In 8th grade a classmate of mine so pissed off a bad sub that the sub took a swing at him (kid was a future all-state wrestler, he was fine) and the sub got fired.

I don't know what exactly this has to do with Vance, if anything, but it's a fond memory of mine.
JD Vance is getting the asshole substitute teacher treatment from a classroom of 300 million

This article is an exemplary piece of journalism. It gives space to comments from multiple perspectives and contextualizes comprehensively, with links.

I wish more news articles were this good.

It's not clear to me (who did not follow nor read Jamelle Bouie and only sometimes saw him reskeeted into my feed) who benefits from him not being on Bluesky. Not better for him. Not better for the NYT. Not better for me, especially as someone who wants more journalists on this site.

@kirshner.bsky.social While I don't disagree with the points made on the Big 12 and PE, I don't think you (plural) interrogated the PE model where they get paid back on the next TV deal. That is, the pitch: Big 12 borrows X today, thanks to that makes 20% more on their next deal, and PE gets 10%.

Neverending Story

my wife is terrified of the dog and won't ever watch it again, so I haven't convinced my child to see it yet... someday tho..

@angelic.style I think I found my limit for cheesy

I want to like Nightwish but I can't take it seriously

at all

like, I'm just laughing at the lyrics, I can't even judge the music

@angelic.style ok so Babymetal is fucking awesome.

The metal songs I tend to like the most have a contrast somewhere - pretty singing with the double bass drums, hard riffs broken up with piano harmonies, etc. This has it built it!

@lowbeyonder.bsky.social I'm still doing my Hugo nominee reading list (continuing a brief conversation you likely don't recall we had on The Bad Site), and I just finished the 90's.

The period from 95-99 is Bleak. I would've thought the advent of mainstream internet would spark some stuff. (1/2)
