I think in my 11 years at Kent (3 degrees) I attended one Wagon Wheel game and ~7 Akron basketball games (one at Akron, which is as you noted a very quick drive, ha).

I don't have a strong opinion on Kent staying FBS in football (though as you pointed out, FCS is logistically awkward), but maybe an awful football team is the price they pay for other sports. That may be a sacrifice I'm willing to make, ha! Of course, selection bias (I chose to go there!) applies.

Both have very competitive Men's BB, Kent finished 5th nationally in 2012 in baseball, and Akron has been ranked first in men's soccer as recently as 2016. Kent Men's Golf and Akron's Men's Track are other examples.

Ours did it at a friend's house and hid it (unsuccessfully) in her shoe. Friend's mom initially thought a doll got a hair cut, but alas. I'm sure we have recital pics somewhere.

Oh I have no thoughts on the specifics here, I just think it's a good practice to consider the cost of benefits, even if the benefits are unambiguously good (for what it's worth, 1/1000 seems like a pretty good improvement to me, though I do not have any experience working in that area!)

I assume OP was considering opportunity cost - i.e. if we put the resources somewhere else, could we get 1 extra life per 500
