NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

My favorite development of this is the excuse that if the board of ethics WERE to follow their current rules, there would be too MANY companies they'd have to divest from.

Capital will stop at nothing to gain more capital. They've spent decades spending the lives of others. Soon it will be yours.
Gotta love my Norwegian government voting against Elon's 1 trillion dollar payout since our sovereign wealth fund is invested in Tesla. Gonna keep our stocks tho, also, let's pass legislation to make it harder for the board of ethics to manage that fund when it comes to companies aiding genocides.

Friendly reminder to leave reviews on the indie games you play🫡 in the past two weeks, we saw the releases of The Skeletons Are Fighting, Parable Academy and Heatwave. With less than 10 reviews, they are kept out of the Steam discovery queue. If you enjoyed them, leave a mark!

Ask literally any voice actor if they get royalties from the video games they worked on.

They will tell you no. They might even laugh.

Now imagine any developer actively trying to use AI VO to save money wanting to offer something like that.
Also, re: "they get royalties", how much money is that? Does it make up for the lack of continued work?

Paying next to nothing is still "getting paid royalties" but is functionally nothing.

a year later a giant part of the US economy is built on this notion most people don't care to know how to do basic things, want to be lazy, unprepared and incapable, phoning it all in. part of my doubt about a future for mainstream AI is I reject that premise. most people really are better than that

Well yeah, have you seen what happens to those who don't want to sign off on this? Can you really call that consent when the alternative is losing (or never getting) a job?

Heads up for folx playing Arc Raiders: Embark has openly stated (in an interview with GamesRadar+), that the game uses the same AI voice tech as The Finals, and the CEO has talked about using AI to generate 3D models from YouTube rips.

If you're anti-AI you should not be playing Arc Raiders!
Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.
