This might be an extreme opinion
But I don't think gun violence is a problem in the United States.
I think the problem is the fact that it's always elderly people, and children, and minorities being shot.
If the right people were being shot everything would be running juuuuust fine.

Like homophobia, and the autism scares of the 2000s, anti-trans politics are very popular with liberal suburbanites because turning out to be trans is one of the few ways they can imagine their kids being icky minorities. If you're obligated to pretend to not be racist and such, it turns inwards.
