What's happening with the Chicago Public Libraries right now is terrible. The proposed budget of the city would CUT 89 CPL positions. Importantly, 78 positions were lost LAST year. That would be 167 positions in 2 YEARS while COPS KEEP GETTING MORE MONEY. ENOUGH. SAY NO.

For those keeping track:

Since Illinois police forces' "Unified Command" secured the area around the Broadview ICE facility (whose allegedly inhumane conditions are now the subject of an ongoing federal class action) in early October, about 100 people have been arrested while protesting there.

I'm so proud of everyone from my old neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. I see what you have been and are doing. I am so proud of how organized the community is and how much more so everyone is becoming. It is inspiring. Just one example... And this is something EVERYONE can do. Everyone.

Terrible that police's obsession with "solving" crimes by any means necessary (extracting false confessions) led to the ruining of four other innocent young people's lives. I'm glad the families have answers and these men can finally be exonerated, for whatever it's worth decades later.

For many years, I waited for someone to start a books to incarcerated children program in IL. It didn't happen. So I decided that I would start such a program. What were the steps to do so?

1. I spoke to people who ran Illinois Youth Prisons about whether they would support such a program.

Even without climate change, prisons around the country have billions of dollars worth of deferred maintenance just to stop the walls from crumbling and keep the lights and the heat on. Now, climate change is turning already miserable conditions inside of prisons into life-threatening ones.
As Prisons Deal With Heat Waves, Climate Crisis Makes Abolition Even More Urgent
While the planet continues to warm, conditions in prisons, and specifically in solitary confinement, continue to worsen.

The Israeli military is now carrying out potentially lethal drone strikes targeting civilian vessels hundreds of miles away solely on account of the passengers' intention to symbolically challenge the blockade that Israel is using to starve all Gaza to death.

Pure evil.
