Dem Justice Allison Riggs leads by 623 votes for a key North Carolina Supreme Court race heading into a recount.

The GOP won a 2020 court race by 401 votes & used it to allow new GOP gerrymanders & voting restrictions.

Riggs would bring Dems a step closer to a majority & restoring fair elections
Democrat keeps slight lead for North Carolina Supreme Court as counties finish count
The final counts by counties are about over and a Democratic incumbent on North Carolina’s Supreme Court has an ever-slight lead over a Republican challenger.

The thing about Twitter versus Bluesky is that the right needs liberals on Twitter to make it feel worthwhile, whereas the left doesn’t need conservatives on Bluesky to make it feel worthwhile.

The reporters who would actually reflect on this have been priced out of journalism for years now. I'm about ready to leave myself. There's no way to make a living and also do actually good reporting, which takes time, and requires pushing back on editorial demands for speed and quantity.
Has *anyone* in US media done any reckoning or self-reflection about the fact that they got caught up in a bogus moral panic driven by big retailers? Will anyone do anything differently the next time around?
Column: How the retail lobby sold a $45-billion whopper about organized shoplifting
Politicians and the press bought into the panic over organized shoplifting, but the source of the alarming statistic now admits that it was a lie.

A bombing in South London last week received remarkably little attention, columnist Alexander Clarkson (@aphclarkson.bsky.social) writes. That’s largely because of what the bomb targeted: cameras enforcing a climate initiative.

I think MTA’s subway announcement, “This is not an ocean. There’s no surfing” is an awful message considering it often looks like the ocean in subways when it rains.

Welcome new Bluesky users. Some etiquette guidelines:

- Reduce your emissions ASAP instead of setting distant plans

- Carbon offsets are fundamentally counter-productive

- Renewable energy deployment must be both fast and cautious

- Carbon removal that delays mitigation must be stopped
