I know that many antivaxxers can maintain blissful ignorance re the effects of vaccine-preventable diseases & think they're safe. But the group I will never get are those personally affected & then become AV. Friend of a relative lost 48 yo mom to COVID & now refuses vax for her baby, posting this.

The first synthetic diamonds were *likely* produced by Henri Moissan, who later won 1906 Nobel for isolating elemental fluorine.

Moissan had a carbon crucible with an electric arc heater that could reach 4100 °C. A plunge in cold water compressed the inner carbon to form diamonds.

The liars, of course, have all moved on to new cons & deceptions. The fishing industry can't. A vaguely honest media would be holding Farage & the rest to account for this instead of promoting a meaningless petition...

Given Jay Bhattacharya is in the news, a good reminder that the Great Barrington Declaration was scientifically bereft and in some ways the most impactful piece of pseudoscience during the pandemic.

Today's word/Science in a minute topic:

Liquefaction.

Liquefaction takes place when loosely packed, water-logged sediments at or near the ground surface lose their strength in response to strong ground shaking.

Others have noted it but I will too: The big reason Bluesky is so hot right now is that the people who add value to social media - the frequent posters in specific fields - are here now, talking to each other and creating the "spectator value" that draws users and attention.

Does everyone remember the condom on a banana approach sex ed in the 90s? And the fact that condoms were free in many public places?

We need to do the same for respirators. An aggressive & information campaign explaining WHY they work, HOW to choose & don one and provide them free in public spaces.
People still wear condoms to protect themselves against HIV and STIs.

Why won't people wear a well fitted N95 knowing Covid can cause vascular damage? It can protect them from catching it and prevent infecting others when positive.

Growing evidence of respiratory spread among humans, yet, health officials insist there is no evidence, refusing to talk about mitigation measures like N95 masks and clean air technologies, steps that should already be in place against existing diseases.

Wow. Imagine the shock for the Daily Mail when it finds out Tory plans were for fines of £5k - later reduced to £3k - for each missed heat pump sale. What Ed Miliband has done is to reduce that to £500. As @torstenbell.bsky.social says today Headline should read “Miliband slashes Tory boiler tax”

This is an excellent thread by David Putrino, one that I’d like to add to with my own personal and professional experience.
Feels like a good time for a thread about all things exercise for people living with infection (and exposure)-associated complex chronic illnesses (IACCs) such as #MECFS, #LongCOVID and chronic #Lyme /tick- and vector-borne illness. Let’s start with a trip down memory lane.
