The refusal to consider DC Statehood is largely a reluctance to give DC two Senators, which itself is a tacit admission that the United States Senate is an anti-democratic institution.
Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

The speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, second in line to the presidency, "didn't follow a lot of the news" about the government committing war crimes.
RAJU: If defenseless survivors were killed, would that constitute a violation of the laws of war?

MIKE JOHNSON: I'm not going to prejudge any of that. I was pretty busy yesterday. I didn't follow a lot of the news.

Walk at least 30 minutes every day and watch the pounds fall away.

Also, use MyFitnessPal to track calories. Sync it to your Fitbit or other health tracker for best results.

So Trump ordered up Pam Bondi to investigate a bunch of Democrats related to the Epstein files. Of course now they’ll say they can’t release the files related to ongoing investigations.

Fine. Then release all the files about the Republicans not being investigated!

Who the hell is trump to call someone piggy? Like, that sounds like a shot at someone who is overweight… but HE is overweight!!

Should we call HIM piggy?

Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.

It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.

And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

God, republicans have no idea how to govern.

If they didn’t have hate to fuel their voters, they wouldn’t have any voters.

Never in the history of the US has any president openly and repeatedly called for the investigation, arrest & prosecution of his political opponents. While many continue to shrug these things off and normalize them, I will never stop pointing out that this is what autocrats do.

Holy shit. I’m so fucking mad at trump and gutless republicans right now. They just let him break whatever laws he wants. It’s so gross. I didn’t realize how much the White House meant to me until now.
WATCH: “Donald Trump wants to be a king. That is the best explanation for everything he has been doing in recent days. Just look at what he is doing to the White House,” says Chris Hayes.

Heck, if you really need to link this back to kitchen-table-kitchen-table-kitchen-table, it's easy to do: While Trump is driving costs through the roof with his unhinged tariff spree and other reckless, failed policies, he's looting $230 million from the US Treasury and sticking it in his pocket.
Democrats should be drawing up legislation right now, this very minute, to bar Trump from helping himself to $230 million in taxpayer funds from DOJ. Challenge Republicans to hold a vote on it. Push this so hard in the media that every GOP Senate and House candidate is pressed to comment on it.

I’ve never understood why it’s only Democrats’ jobs to run government and help people. Republicans break government, or threaten agencies that help folks, and people don’t get mad at them. They wait for Democrats to do the right thing.
Translation: if Dems don’t cave this week, Donald Trump and Republicans are going to turn up the pain level on the American people.

📌 “The Schumer shutdown is likely to end sometime this week… if it doesn’t… the White House…will have to look at stronger measures…to bring them to the table.”

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.

The Epstein files would immediately become public.

Hey, dumb MAGAts: what legislation has your Republican Party passed in the last 10 months to make your lives better? What are they proposing?

How do we break maga cult members out of their trance?

Is it even possible on a national scale?

Or do they just love their racism so much that they’ll never change?

The Speaker of the House has firm views that Bad Bunny is a terrible pick for singing at the Super Bowl, but hasn't had time to watch the President's speech to our military leadership or form an opinion whether furloughed federal workers should be paid or Illinois' governor should be thrown in jail.

In 2024, I was all about building coalitions with republicans who had “learned their lesson” about trump and wouldn’t be fooled this time.

Know what?

I was fooled.

So, fuck that. Engage with democrats to turn things around from here on out.

DO NOT COUNT ON REPUBLICANS.
