Yes, and I don't think anyone is saying "give up on the South." Folks just need to recognize that the South isn't artificially red. These states are red because, for the most part, a majority of their voters are red. The Mississippi legislature is still overwhelmingly Republican.

After ~2 years of Trump trying and failing to manage Great Recession II, voters won't be interested in politicians like Newsom who are fundamentally opposed to relief, recovery and reform programs that would actually threaten big money donors.

I think if you're Latino and watching people who look like you getting disappeared off the street by ICE regardless of their citizenship or immigration status then you are in fact taking a lot of the steps/having the feelings white dude citizen Tom outlined and says he doesn't have.
